CFD Analysis of Jet Mixer

The objective of the project was to establish base CFD model that describes two-phase flow problem to find feasible options to improve the equipment performance at Lake Charles (US) Plant.

To determine the pressure gradient, velocity vectors and the mixing intensity of the two liquid streams.

The simulation was done for the simplified 3D geometry with mixture model

Skills Used:

Flow analysis, turbulence model used, Eulerian multiphase model

CFD Analysis of Temperature Profile Study in Crystallizer

Design the crystallizer for the plant of the future and identify ideas for improving the operation of crystallizers.

CFD model was developed to study the temperature profile with respect to time during the crystallization process

The effect of crystallizer volume and geometry analyzed using temperature profile.

User Defined Functions were linked for the CFD model.

Skills Used:

Transient simulation, two phase heat transfer analysis (conduction, convection)

CFD Analysis of Sodasoarb Extruder

To improve the best mixing capability of the existing model

To optimize the existing equipment using CFD results

Reduce the amount of dust that created during the process

Skills Used:

Flow analysis, turbulence model used, Non-Newtonian approach, multiphase model, moving reference frame

Introduction of Reliability Support for plants Using CFD Software Tools

To explore the possibility of providing the reliability support to the process plants using CFD.

Humidity analysis of rotary Calciner

Determine the temperature gradient inside the rotary Calciner.

To find out the amount of evaporation.

Establish a CFD model that can reproduce the lake Charles video (bed behavior)

To understand the Hydro dynamic studies for Rotating Calciner (velocity gradients, flow pattern, volume fraction contours)

To convert the slumping to rolling motion and compare the CFD results with mathematical modeling.

Skills Used:

Transient simulation, Flow and heat transfer analysis, Evaporation and condensation model, Multiphase model, Eulerian Granular approach

Projects handled at P.S.G College of technology, Coimbatore, India

Numerical Study of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer Characteristics of 2 Mw Sodium to Air Heat Exchanger

Client: Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research-Kalpakkam.

Analyze it to explore the hydrodynamics involved in liquid sodium side to study the pressure variation across each branch pipe as well us the flow rate through each pipe

simulate it to understand the conjugate heat transfer at different flow conditions of both the fluids.

compare the CFD results with experimental using temperature distribution, pressure and velocity distribution data's.

Skills Used:

Modeling, Flow and temperature analysis, Conjugate heat transfer analysis,

Projects handled at Industrial Consultancy & Sponcered Research, IIT Madras, India

CFD Visualization Model for Characterizing Thermo Hydraulic Flow Regimes of Typical U-tube Steam generator

Client: Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchirapalli

To determine the flow and temperature distributions in the U tube steam generator

To determine the volume fraction variations in the hot and down comer side

Verify the output with the estimations available with BHEL ATHOS code

Skills Used:

Flow and single phase heat transfer analysis, porous medium approach, Evaporation and condensation model, Multiphase model

CFD Analysis of Fire Tube Evaporator for Pressurized Heat Recovery System in IGCC Application

Client: Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchirapalli

The main objective of the project was to check the overall heat transfer in the evaporator (gas in tube and water flowing across the shell).

To check the circulation through each tubes and to establish the gas flow distribution

Determine the amount of vapor formation for entire system.

Skills Used:

Flow and single phase heat transfer analysis, Evaporation and condensation model, Multiphase model

Design and analysis of Ejection system for towed flexible cylinder

Client: Naval physical and oceanographic laboratory, DRDO, Kochi

The objective of the problem is to design an ejector system to drive out a neutrally buoyant flexible cylinder into sea water using pressurized water source.

As the pressurized water hits the flexible cylinder, surface momentum being transferred to flexible cylinder, drives the cylinder out.

The CFD Results was validated experimentally.

Skills Used:

Flow analysis, Drag coefficient calculation, Results comparison with experimental data's
