Key courses studied at UOIT include:

Engineering Operations and Project Management (ENGR 316U): Introduces students to the field of

operations and project management as practiced in various industries. Topics of study included: decision

making strategies, decision trees, scoring models, Utility theory and project scheduling (PERT/CPM).

Industrial Ergonomics (ENGR 346U): Course focused on work design and measurement applied to

manufacturing and service industries, so as to improve worker performance, health and safety. Topics

of study included: workplace tool and equipment design, work environment design, performance rati ng

and work sampling. Course also included major ergonomic redesign project.

Mechatronics (ENGR 3990U): Able to design and control mechatronic systems (smart systems

comprising of electronic, mechanical and fluid components) Course includes biweekly prog ramming

laboratories and completion of two major design projects using Lego Mindstorm.

Applied Thermal and Fluids Engineering (ENGR 4240U): Course examines and analyses advanced

systems such as: gas and steam turbine based power plants, refrigeration syste ms, air conditioning

processes, pipe networks and turbomachinary.

Advanced Structure and Properties of Materials (ENGR 4250U): develops a clear understanding of

classifications, physical characteristics, mechanical performances, toughening and strengtheni ng, of

engineering materials. Understand the material selection methodology and it interrelationship with

material properties. Explore the deformation and fracture behavior of a range of engineering materials

under various loading conditions and impact tests, fatigue loading and due to creep. Study the effects of

corrosion and mitigation methods. Major project included material selection for a wide range of

consumer products.

Mechanical System Design I & II (ENGR 4220u/4221U): 4th year capstone project. Redesigned and

optimized fluid flow channels of a bipolar plate for a PEM hydrogen fuel cell. Parts were constructed in
