Dear Hiring Manager,
I’m interested in your Production Planner position. As you consider my letter and resume, you'll see that I typically do more than fill a seat. I may even be able to help with problems that you didn't realize existed. Please consider:
Do you want experience? My background…
Comprehensive experience distributed as follows: 10 years in Inventory/Warehouse
Management, 5 years in Purchasing, 13 years in Material or Production Planning and 8
years in Management. (Some positions overlapped)
Established several Warehouses as well as Purchasing, Material Control, Inspection and
Receiving departments.
APICS Certified. (It’s like a CPA compared to a bookkeeper.)
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher and other common software. Adapt easily to new applications, including “homegrown” and commercial MRP and ERP systems.
Prepared and delivered well over 500 presentations to audiences ranging from 50 to 9,000 in size.
Do you want someone to take pride in his work?
My website, www.ProductionInventoryEfficiency.com describes some of my abilities and is itself a sample of my work.
Former employers described me as “very talented,” “dedicated,” “model employee,” “really knows his stuff.”
My ability and willingness to tackle some of the most daunting challenges won both written and verbal praise from highest levels in companies including Boeing Corporation, Applied Biosystems, Inc. and Amdahl Corporation.
Do you want someone who constantly strives to improve performance? I…
Know how to improve the productivity of warehouse personnel by up to 667%.
Know how to get up to 100% of the value for all Excess and Obsolete inventory.
Know how to use suppliers’ services to improve operational efficiency.
Know how to reduce production costs and inventories while simultaneously improving
quality and delivery performance.
Have developed several original techniques for improving efficiency and profitability.
I can produce similar results for you. I typically improve processes and save money wherever I work. I get along well with virtually everyone. I’m available to interview and confident that I would be a valuable asset to you and your company.
Thank you very much for your time and courtesy in reviewing my background. I’m looking forward to speaking with you soon.
Very Sincerely,
Jim Bartmess, CPIM
Achievements:
A consolidation of 2 corporate divisions at Applied Biosystems, Inc. required that I redesign and expand a warehouse to double in size, outfit the new space, hire and train 10 additional employees, sift through and assimilate $5,000,000 of additional inventory, contend with mislabeled inventory received from disgruntled employees, cope with major transaction discrepancies due to mass data transfers, keep production flowing, accommodate the equipment and furniture that filled ten 40-foot truck trailers, and assume responsibility for the Shipping department, all within 3 months of first conceiving the idea. One month later, a full Physical Inventory resulted in 99.9% inventory accuracy.
Assembled a staff of 35 at Xyratex International, Inc. to provide 24/7 coverage in the Warehouse, Shipping, Receiving, and Inspection during an extreme growth in sales. (One $3 million system shipment every 10 days, with zero "Ramp-up" time.) Added, then outfitted, filled and operated an additional 5,000 square-foot warehouse. Produced documented procedures. Starting with 72% data accuracy and $4 million in inventory, in just five months data accuracy was increased to 85% with $12 million in inventory.
Attracted interest, praise and recommendation from the "Executive Vice President and Deputy to the President" of Boeing Corporation by presenting a method for saving $2 Billion annually. (I would be happy to show it to you.)
Authored “Waste Not! - 17 Ways to Recover Money from Excess & Obsolete Inventory”. These techniques were used to obtain full value ($2,000,000) for 100% of excess and obsolete inventory at Compression Labs, Inc.
Starting with $800,000 in inventory and 74% data accuracy, I took responsibility for a Warehouse and Receiving department. Two years later, with $2,000,000 in inventory, achieved 99.995% accuracy in 3 inventory locations simultaneously, qualifying to avoid annual physical inventories altogether at Applied Biosystems, Inc.
Designed a 40,000 square-foot warehouse for Pro Fasteners and Components with a high volume material processing center and a conveyor system to move products from the Receiving department, through Inspection, Pre-packaging, Stock Put-Away, and Order Fulfillment to Shipping. Developed a full set of procedures to compliment the system.
