Dear Sir / Ma’am:
It is very nice to know from Post Job Free website that you have a position open for Software Engineer.
I have been working at University of Victoria Libraries for the past 14 years as a Systems Administrator. My
work covered a wide range of duties and responsibilities, which is mostly listed in my resume. There are also
numerous details not mentioned in the resume such as setting up and administering terminal servers for
library circulations, cataloguing and OPAC workstations; backup server and MS SQL server database daily,
scheduling tasks and monitoring application processes; scripting VB codes to add network printers to user
accounts automatically in group policy; responding and solving staff’s and students’ technical issues through
calls and emails; coding applications to make addition or correct problems in the existing software systems
While coding, or setting up/develop systems, or make changes to security Access Control List on network, I
always have extensive details of documentation.
I was trained in numerical computing for B.Sc. and have been working on large scaled computing problems
such as converting aviation map data to three dimensional map data, solving large linear equations and
minimization problems, and so on. I also have been teaching engineering students programming and I am
experienced with .Net C#. At university of Victoria Libraries, I have been writing codes in C# and Java to
bridge our existing database resources and LDAP environment with the software packaged provided by the
third party developers.
At university of Victoria Libraries, I have been working independently on projects with programming in .Net C#
for a web based interaction with MS SQL database for booking and scheduling meeting rooms and managing
building keys. I did all the work from database design to coding in aspx pages.
My position at UVic is being eliminated due to a severe budget cut on B.C. universities. I am sad for a few
days but I am taking this as an opportunity for working in a difference environment with different people to
meet new challenges. I think my strong background in systems administration, programming, and information
services will help your team to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Other than having effective communication skills and professional experience, I am a caring and easy going
person. I value the importance of promoting friendly work environment without sacrificing productivity. I am
also a hard working person, and always look for solutions through online search and coding. I am experienced
to work under stress to meet deadlines or to revive hardware failures. I cherish team work very much. I am
confident I will be a highly effective and productive member in your work environment.
I am preparing myself for a new start and looking forward to meeting you to discuss the details of my
qualification and experience.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Di
