RE: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager
The purpose of submitting my application is to apply for the Environmental, Health, and Safety
Manager position. With number years of experience I have been given the opportunity to practice and
implement safety procedures within a manufacture industrial environment. Previously I have functioned
as a Health and Safety advisory to small manufacturing firms. I am also currently an instructor with
American Red Cross providing First-Aid and CPR training with in the Willamette Valley. While
an Environmental Health and Safety Manager my primary responsibility was to evaluate the
performance of other managers and supervisors, providing support concerning quality product
involving extraction resin, environmental and safety issues. Through a constant re-evaluation of
the entire manufacturing process and connecting the OSHA and DEQ regulations, I was able to
ensure that the corporation and the site-specific management staff were in compliance.
Additional while working for a regulatory agency for 10 years I oversaw the safety practices of
every work site to ensure workers were complying with all of Cal-OSHA standards.
I have manage several aspects concerning, asbestos, lead, mold and other industrial hygiene
projects including; proposal generation, managing project budgets and generating final reports
and remediation specifications. Additional responsibilities include performing on-site surveys,
inspections, assessments, abatement oversight and monitoring and auditing of safety procedures
and applicable regulations associated with industrial hygiene and environmental projects.
I have written several job hazard analyses, emergency contingency plans and fire prevention
plans. Plus I oversaw all of the hazardous evaluations concerning the manufacturing process,
including ergonomics, chemical exposure, and equipment operations, and ensured that the
required hazardous communications to employees was in place. This included all of the
environmental regulatory concerns within the manufacturing industry.
Have been a certified FIT Respiratory trainer and a certified asbestos inspector. I have obtained a
considerable amount of knowledge concerning industrial safety rules and regulations (obtaining
my Oregon OSHA 40 hour training certification and 1910.120; Hazwapor certification). I am an
American Red Cross Certified Trainer First Aid/AED/CPR. While employed by Brunswick I
have managed a Title V permit renewal and dealt with several Title V permit as a regulatory
agent within the State of California. Also have managed NPDES (storm water permits) while
managing a facility of 355 individuals.
I have translated and interpreted large amounts of data collected for emissions, water quality, and
wildlife surveys, into the appropriate regulatory language were an essential component of my
work. Within my efforts I translated technical and regulatory jargon into layman’s terms on a
daily basis. I was the technical lead in developing air quality policies and procedures to
determine emission standards for oil and manufacturing industries for the San Joaquin Air
Pollution District.
While managing over 350 people I had to train every single one of them at one level or another
to accomplish their assigned duties in a safe manner. With each individual’s personalities my
programs demanded me to be flexible in facilitating to their needs, compelling me to be a strong
team player. Being a part of a team has taught me how to take the initiative in developing new
resources to establish and maintain best practice trends. I also learned to be a successful
Manager you need to know on how to manage both physical and human resources, on day to day
bases.
Implemented quality assurance procedures in yacht manufacturing, such as overseeing the safety
procedures, utilizing lean manufacturing ideas, e.g., in a capital project for a warehouse redesign,
I determined the ergonomic procedures to improve efficiency and decrease overall production
rates and costs. With my effort I connected environmental issues with cost of production to
illustrate benefits to management. While in a regulatory position I helped industry management
determine efficiency costs of maintaining state and federal regulations.
My greatest achievement was to reduce the number of recorded incidents from 72 to 13 within
two years. A hallmark of my is establishing an oversight of the injury incident reporting system,
by implementing a “near miss” reporting system, which fostered a culture of prevention and
improved the quality assurance process. With my number of years working with both resources
and people I believe I can provide the right environment in the work place.
Thank you for your consideration.
