• Quantify your work results whenever possible - for example, Cost savings of X%, Increased sales
by X%, reduced receivables by X%, etc. Do not use dollar amount figures as they can be
construed by a potential employer as either too large or too small whereas the percentage figure
can be quite impressive. Do not exaggerate the numbers and do be prepared to be able to
substantiate your claims with documentation, awards or letters of commendation.
• Listing an objective can be limiting, unless it directly relates to your education or job experience.
Your objective is to get an interview for each job you apply for!
• Education - Only list first on resume if you have recently graduated or your degree directly
relates to the position; otherwise, it should be after any employment history. Dates of graduation
should be used for very recent graduates or to explain any employment gaps. You may insert
GPA's if 3.0 and above. Omit hobbies or special interests unless they have a direct bearing on the
job. Do not include your picture or personal information other than contact information.
• Don't include salary requirements, history of salary or reasons for leaving a job; but do list if a
position was contract (temporary) to explain short job duration.
• Use the heading PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE over your work history. Semantics is
everything!
