Consultant and owner
LAN Technologies
Shreveport, LA 71118
1/1/1990 – 12/25/2002
I developed a gift for working on computer hardware and software. So I went into business for myself. I had clients both in town and out of town whose computers I worked on after school hours and on weekends. It was during these years that I realized that I had a love for working with computers and networking. I took a sabbatical for one year to work for a local computer company and get certified as a Novell Engineer. In 1993, I began working part time as a consultant at KTBS. I installed their first windows server and all subsequent workstations. I worked there after school and on weekends until February 2000 when I was hired full-time at the television station.

Photography Course for 11th and 12th Graders. I wrote grants to network our campus. And as a result, Caddo Magnet was the
first school in Shreveport with its own Ethernet network with a drop in every classroom. I wrote proposals for funding of
Computers in the classroom and was able to create a NT4 server with Exchange Server. So every teacher at Magnet had an email
account and had the ability to communicate with other staff. I was the “Tandy Technology Outstanding Teacher” for 1990-91 and
1995-96. I organized computer seminars for teachers. I was nominated in 1991 for the Presidential Award for Excellence in
Science. While I was teaching, I also was a Computer Consultant as described previously. Mary Rounds was my supervisor. You

Achievements
I have had several things that were career highlights for me. The first was getting my Bachelor's Degree. I had dropped out of
college at 19 and had worked at a factory for 5 years. I disliked the job and decided to go back to college. I worked 3-4 jobs and
put myself through college. The night I got my Bachelor's Degree was a great accomplishment for me. I then worked full time
while pursuing a Master's Degree. Eventually I became fascinated with computers. I started my own consulting business which I
ran after work each day and on weekends. I had a client who was interested in setting up a network so he could set up a
telemarketing company. I went with him as a consultant when he talked to a computer company who did networking. By the end
of that discussion with the vendor, they asked me to come to work for them. They agreed to train me for my Novell Certified
Engineer Certification if I came to work for them. So, from just self-taught knowledge of computer hardware and software, I was
able to increase my knowledge and worth in the marketplace.
Eventually, as a result of that knowledge, I came to work for KTBS Television. When I started working there after school and on
weekends they only had green screen workstations. I installed and maintained an NT 3.51 server with Microsoft Mail on a Token
Ring network with. Today KTBS has over 180 networked computers, including active directory servers, Red Hat servers, and
Exchange 2007, all of which I had a major role in placing on our network.
In 2009, I moved to Alabama and went to work at an International company. They sent me overseas to learn about IT problems
faced by our IT Staff in those offices. Today I manage a network that supports 700+ people. I have continued to grow in
knowledge and always look forward to new challenges.
