EXPERIENCE

****- ******* ***** ********* ***** Richmond, KY

QA Specialist / Group Leader

Currently I am the Group Leader and assisting the Quality Mgr. in times of absence at a new start up forging company in my area. I assist/manage any and all aspects of the quality department.

I manage all QC techs, 5 final inspectors, a rework associate, a shot blast associate and a shipping associate ; as well as handle meetings and customer related issues, and ensuring quality and department objectives are being met.

I design and compile customer objective tracking data, scrap percentages, customer concerns, sorting & rework procedures, just to name a few.

Currently I have just finished writing the Quality Manual and Master Document Reference List Manual for ISO 9000, as well as modify and update the Control Plan and PFMEA for our customers.

I have created the calibration system we are currently using, all the Operation Standards and Visual Aides our quality department uses; as well as assisted with production control’s document system. I also train associates in forging and final inspection and diagnosis of root causes when discrepancies are found.

2010~Present Tokico (USA), Inc. Berea, KY

I volunteered to go back to the Quality department to be instrumental in the training of a new crew of technicians. I have been a mentor to 12 individuals that were new to the field of Automotive Quality for the past year. Due to my work and guidance with these techs they will now be a fully functioning 2nd shift quality department.

I have taught all my techs to read and use the blueprints in the lab to diagnose and make clear, conscious decisions pertaining to the customer requirements, on the product lines.

Have taught all techs the proper application of gages and tolerances to judge if a component or assembly qualifies for use.

Have taught the techs the importance of understanding their product from start to finish, regardless of the work performed from a support department or if going to a value added application in the next step of the process.

Have taught the techs the importance of being cross trained to be able to assist or command a process different than their daily duties.

I am capable of making, and have made, critical decisions concerning production and shipping of product after a discrepancy has been identified. I have verified product as ok to ship, or quarantined product that did not meet customer requirements. I have issued Corrective Action Reports, as well as made gaging to sort product with, and led sort teams to achieve these deliveries without delay or Customer Concerns issued.

I have supervised the in-house sorts with our employees as well as with third party and external sorting activities.

This letter is to express my interest in the Purchasing position listed on Engineering -jobs. Based on my skills in Purchasing, Quality, & Manufacturing; I am confident that I would be a great addition to your team. While my cover letter and resume highlight my Automotive Purchasing experience, I am certain my negotiation skills and my ability to multi-task will be an asset to your companies. I have an intense two years of purchasing experience in the automotive market. I have managed as many as 28 separate supplies and a total of over 400 components to track and manage. I have dealt with several international companies as well; even purchasing in Yen on a regular basis using an up to date exchange rate.

My experience with purchasing internationally and my experience with critical details in Braking & Suspension System components would position me to be the optimum candidate for your future success. During my time at Tokico (USA), Inc., I was able to save money as well as meet customer timing and product requirements in Purchasing.

For example; I had a pre-existing Japanese supplier that was going bankrupt. They had failed to maintain their tooling service resulting in destruction of the die. They demanded a new tooling PO to buy a new tool, but we had a signed tooling agreement stating that we would make a one time payment and they would be responsible for maintenance and replacement for the life of the program. I took advantage of the fact that we had an import / export company in the states, increasing our forecast to Japan and holding them stateside for use. I had RFQ’d, analyzed, recommended, and awarded the business contract to a local stamping company. Meanwhile my customer’s orders went up unexpectedly above their forecasts and I had to shorten my timeline with the new supplier to have the tooling completed, parts approved, and inventory built to meet my new SOP. I amortized overtime into the current pc/pr and tooling cost for 12 months and still was showing a profit, reduced an international commodity to local, and kept our customer obligations.

Another example; I was able to save money and increase productivity in the Machining Department. I was able to do this from when I was a buyer for the long bar steel that we use to make shock & strut rods. We originally bought our rod material at a grade 1025 carbon content. This was what the Japanese were accustomed to using in Japan. This is a very specific, request only composition for the US steel makers, and comes at a premium $/LB ratio. The US automotive market uses a common grade of 1035, which has a higher carbon ratio, making a harder, more robust rod materiel at a more efficient price. I was able to convince our PE & QC departments to agree to test this harder 1035 material for one month for tool wear, and in-house handling defect reduction. What we found were fewer reject parts back to the supplier, and average tool wear and consumption. From this testing I was able to convince the company to change their material specification with an agreement from the customer. By doing so I was able to reduce the scrap down by an average of $8K per month, and a monthly savings in cost reduction from the supplier by $30k per month.

I am highly motivated and an excellent self starter with very high expectations of myself and from those around me. I am not afraid to tackle new responsibilities and challenges as seen by my resume. I feel that I would be an ideal candidate for this position based on my broad range of titles and responsibilities. I have managed a purchasing account that consisted of buying $36 million dollars of inventory annually. As well as watching the current market for trends and forecasting these predictions in prices up to 6 months in advance. I have two years of intense experience with RFQ, LOI, Tooling Agreement, Negotiations, Cost Reductions, PPAP, PO’s & Invoicing, Mapics, AS400, EDI, Blanket Forecasting, JIT, Prepare Quotes, Supplier Monitoring, Spreadsheet generation and maintenance, Liason between Quality, Customer, Supplier. Not to mention effectively handling multiple projects on a daily basis.

I am excited about the Purchasing position and the possibility to help your corporation succeed. Thank you in advance for your time. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I would appreciate the opportunity to review my qualifications in more detail and will look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jeffery Mink
