Multi-Lingual (fluency in 4 languages)
TWO MAJOR INDUSTRIAL BREAKTHROUGHS
Advanced compounding knowledge and effects of ingredients on properties
were utilized to conceive, patent and implement "green" tire manufacturing
processes eliminating many manufacturing steps including use and emission
of more than 20,000 liters of volatile organic content (VOC) per year to
the atmosphere from Goodyear plants while simultaneously improving
corporation's bottom line. More than 20% of world's current airplane tires
are manufactured this way.
Combined knowledge of polymer rheology and organic chemistry was utilized
to develop catalyst for melt blown microfiber manufacturing doubling
production rate and improving profitability. Catalyst concept initially
proposed helped 3M to develop new melt blown micro-fibers based products
which would not have been otherwise possible.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Akron, OH 1988 to 2011
Associate Scientist, Global New Materials Technology (2006 to 2011)
. Developed concept of solvent-less retreading patented while at
Research division. Implemented this novel retreading process in
Brazilian aircraft tire retreading plant which eliminated the use and
emission of 4800 liters of volatile organic content (VOC) to the
atmosphere thus significantly reducing manufacturing cost while
maintaining equivalent performance. As Brazilian patent was also
granted, Goodyear is getting 5% of aircraft tire retread sales from
Brazilian Government.
. Developed partial replacements of NR-based compounds with much cheaper
synthetic rubber-based compounds while maintaining equivalent
performance.
. Proposed new tire puncture sealant concepts for which 5 patents are
pending.
. Suggested methods for reducing noise from tires for which 5 patent
applications are filed.
. Conducted limited production trial for solvent-less method of keeping
tire inner-liner clean that in future will eliminate 60,000 and 20,000
liters of solvents from US and Latin American plants.
. Conceived the idea of buff-less and cement-less pre-cured tread that
will save Goodyear $1.9 million per year per plant with simultaneous
elimination of VOC's.
. Proposed several methods of cutting tire weight and manufacturing
cost.
Associate Scientist, Aircraft Tire Division (2001 to 2006)
. Played the leading role for qualification of aircraft tires retreaded
by proprietary cement-less process and obtained FAA approvals.
Implemented this technology in Georgia, Arizona, The Netherland and
T.G.L. (Israel) plants to eliminate use and emission of tens of
thousands of liters of VOC's to the atmosphere.
. Found new film to wrap cement-less cushion thus reducing its removal
force from roll
. Worked with Brazilian cohorts to find a manufacturer for custom
wrapping film with appropriate material and embossing pattern to wrap
cement-less cushion. Goodyear awarded a trade secret for this
innovation.
. Reduced significantly the failure of balance pads from aircraft tires
by suggesting a clean one-component adhesive that replaced messy two-
component adhesive.
. Cooperated with race tire group to implement proprietary tamper
resistant bar codes in tire sidewall.
Associate Scientist and Senior Research Chemist, Tire Research (1992-2001)
. Originated the concept of cement-less adhesive for tire tread splice
and for tire retreading for which US patents and their foreign
equivalents were granted.
. Developed tire label laboratory test method that correlated with tires
in the field. Worked jointly with label suppliers to replace
adhesives in all tire labels with superior adhesive.
. Developed R1H fluorescent labels for Ford tires.
. Implemented proprietary composition of repair patch for Off-the-road
tires.
. Implemented pull-tab labels for match mounting tire with rim.
. Worked on improving the aesthetics and safety of tires.
Senior Research Chemist, Polyester Research (1988-1992)
. Synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline polyester.
. Proposed method of preparing ultra high molecular weight polyester by
solid state polycondensation that led to polyester gel spinning
program.
Allied-Signal, Morristown, NJ 1986 to1988
Senior Research Chemist, Research and Developments
. Polymer modification reaction by hydrogenation and sulfonation that
led to commercialization.
. Did scale-up work on phenolic triazine resin which is a commercialized
resin.
3M Company, Saint Paul, MI 1983 to 1986
Senior Research Chemist, Disposable Products Division
. Created catalyzed melt blown microfiber manufacturing process
increasing production rate and profitability.
. Worked on pressure sensitive adhesive tape, film from resin,
synergistic combination of stabilizers, synthesis of block copolymers
by anionic polymerization for use in pressure sensitive adhesives,
high temperature rheology of polymers.
