Special Skills and Interests

Am skilled at scripting/programming using both direct and indirect

techniques. That is, using one language to generate another program in the

same or different language. Quite frankly, can script and/or automated

everything encountered so far. Can see far and around corners and can work

with multi-layered or multi-dimensional problems and solutions. Have

specialization in modernization, conversion, migration, transformation, and

automation. Prefer both bash and korn shells; makes no difference to me.

Easily, over 100,000 lines authored.

Project/Assignment External/Internal History

Project: State of Oklahoma, OK, 2009

. Type: Platform/Database/Applications Modernization/Transformation

. Targets: HP-UX (UNIX family), Oracle, SQL*Plus, ESQL, Stored

Functions, COBOL, PuTTY SSH/SFTP, Internal Data Transformation

Repository (DTR) (bash, awk, HTML) tools, Testing: UT, SIT.

. Description: As a senior consultant in the role of senior data

analyst deployed my self-authored bash/awk based transformation tool

set to convert the State's legacy COBOL inventory from CODASYL-aware

database OLTP to DB2-SQL-aware processing. Also, wrote five, new

phase plug-ins, in bash, for the specific additional demands of the

style and features used by the State of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the

project never made it out of pilot due to the recession and demands on

their people with the spike in volume of the UI benefits system. This

resulted in staff layoffs on our end without another project ongoing

or in the pipeline.

. Employed/paid by: Practical Transitions (delivery center staff)

Internal: Practical Transitions, IN, 2006-2009

. Type: Data Transformation Repository and Tool Suite (core business)

. Targets: Fedora Linux, Oracle, SQL*Plus, SQL*Loader (conventional,

direct), PL/SQL, Stored Objects, SQL, Import/Export, ETL (FTP/SFTP,

SQL, 3GL, UTL_FILE, UNIX/Linux, Loaders, etc), PuTTY SSH/SFTP, bash,

awk, Perl, Windows Server/XP, CIFS, SAMBA, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, Berkeley

Utilities, cvs, GNU: C, OpenCOBOL, TinyCOBOL, Java applets, GRUB, Sun

VirtualBox, Zenmap, GanttProject, MySQL, Power*Architect, ERD, HTML,

RAD, Testing: Regression, UT, SIT, QA.

. Description: As a senior consultant in the role of senior data

analyst and tools architect, this internal company project spanned

multiple external projects for partial use and development. Developed

the HTML generated (by bash, awk, Perl) Data Transformation Repository

(DTR) for analysis of the existing database inventory using CODASYL

structures and data to produce a server-less network of navigation

with statistical analysis (max, min, type, empty, sort) the legacy

data for new/transformation development and use-case checking and

database cleansing, drop/add, and primary/foreign key establishment.

Comprised of approximately seven bash (with embedded awk) and some

stand along Perl the actually phased tool suite was developed to

perform all of the nuances of shifting client program inventory from

CODASYL to SQL (Oracle, DB2, or SQL). Established the SOP for this

suite and each component was designed to begin and end with clearly

defined units of work and be largely customizable to the specific SOI

deployed by the client's legacy programming staff. For both LACOE and

Oklahoma, a "live" feature was added to the DTR to allow available

Oracle databases to add drill-down features to the working data. This

used Java applets, Oracle stored functions, and the HTML feature of

SQL*Plus to achieve the extended capability. Engineer and

administrator responsibility for the Linux servers.

. Employed/paid by: Practical Transitions (delivery center architect)

Project: Los Angeles County Office of Education, CA, 2008-2009

. Type: Platform/Database/Applications Modernization/Transformation

support, Testing: QA.

. Description: As a senior consultant in the role of transformation

architect deployed the entire suite of transformation phase tools on

LACOE. This suite was developed in the above "Internal" project with

input from staff testers, management, and clients. Using the suite

components to dismiss embedded legacy CODASYL DML and replace with the

full range of embedded SQL DML to access the new DB2 databases.

code and parts of MI and ME systems. We provided Use-Case support

using our evolving DTR product as well the daemons for unloading,

splitting, loading, packaging, and transporting. We performed all of

the legacy transformation as a subcontractor for IBM. Protech took

structures and data. Supplied Honeywell with a loaded version of our

own Data Transformation Repository presentation (HTML) tool for a
