Objective
To use my art direction experience, design and marketing skills to drive a
business or organization forward.
Experience
MeDiAmerica inc., portland, Or (1997 to Sept. 2010). The largest producer
of magazines and custom publications in Oregon, MEDIAmerica's products
reach a wide variety of readers and clients. The company publishes Oregon
Home and Oregon Business. In addition, its Discover Portland division
produces regional guides available to tourists through the area's major
hotels and visitor centers, and its Custom Publishing Group produces
magazines, newsletters and web content that boost brand awareness for a
variety of businesses and associations, including Travel Oregon, the Oregon
Culinary Tourism Association and the Oregon Wine Board.
Art Director, Oregon Home (2003 to 2010)
. Worked with the editor to carry out vision of a regional home magazine of
national quality for
people who love their homes. I contributed story ideas and art direction
ideas for the entire book.
. Art-directed and styled photo shoots. Shopped and borrowed products for
various sections of the magazine.
. Assigned photography and illustration work to freelance contributors.
. Designed all promotional materials, media kits and collateral materials.
. Redesigned the magazine in 2004; refreshed the look in 2010.
Art Director, Oregon Business (1997 to 2003)
. Worked with four different editors to carry out their very different
visions for this magazine, which is targeted to business executives.
. Assigned and art-directed photo shoots, designed charts and graphs.
. Oversaw and art-directed all promotional and collateral materials related
to Oregon Business.
. Redesigned the magazine in 2000.
Owner, Osborne Design Associates, new York city and portland, Or (1991 to
1997). I worked with various clients in both New York and in Portland on
magazine art direction, design and print design. My clients included Sports
Illustrated, Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages, Lingua France (for which I
helped deliver its National Magazine Award for overall excellence in 1993),
the New York
Police Department (I designed its Annual Report), the Oregon Historical
Society (my book projects include Oregon Painters: The First Hundred Years
(1859-1959), Cannon Beach: A Place by the Sea, Legislative Perspectives and
Bohemia: The Lives and Times of an Oregon Timber Venture) and Portland
State University.
Art Director, Viare publishing, New York City (1983 to 1991).
I art-directed TWICE, an industry magazine for the consumer electronics
market and served as assistant art director on Previews and VideoPro,
magazines geared to the moviegoing market.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Graphic Design), School of Visual Arts, New York
City.
Skills
I am proficient in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
In addition, I have a working knowledge of MS Word
and Excel. Some knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Personal
I love to travel, read, do yoga, visit the coast with my family and walk my
shar-pei/basset hound mix, the winner of spot #110 on
The New York Times' "Reader's Ugly Animals Photos" page.
