Objective:
To use my years of experience in both public accounting and corporate
accounting to help provide the best accounting controls for company and
deliver timely, accurate and meaningful reports to benefit management from
my variety of knowledge, experience and abilities.
Experience:
> December 2008 - June 2011. The Blau Company, Ltd., Tempe, AZ, Tax
Manager. The company is a CPA firm with 9 employees. As tax manager I
was involved with most of the income tax audits, prepared offers in
compromise, prepared most of the corporate, partnership and trust tax
returns, handled most of the office tax research and reviewed tax returns
prepared by other staff members. Worked on the year-end closing of
clients' books as well as keying in data in QuickBooks. During my stay
with the firm, it was said that the tax seasons were better than previous
years as far as people not being upset with each other.
> December 2007 - November 2008, Centennial Leasing & Sales, Phoenix, AZ,
Business Manager. Supervised Accounting Staff of 4 for a $38,000,000 per
year auto sales company.
Compiled monthly financial statements for the corporation. Prepared
commission and staff payroll for 50+ employees through ADP. Maintained
accounting schedules for management. Implemented various cost cutting
procedures for the corporation. Prepared entries for units sold,
recorded the purchase of cars and their related costs, recorded and made
various disbursements and converted the accounting system from Peachtree
Classic to Peachtree Complete 2008.
> March 2006 - December 2007, Southwest Charter Lines, Inc., Gilbert, AZ,
Controller. Supervise Accounting Staff of 8 for a $20,000,000 per year
Transportation Company. Produced all supporting schedules and working
papers for certified audits and reviewed all accounting procedures.
Compiled monthly financial statements for the corporation. Made all
required entries and schedules for the preparation of monthly financial
statements. Prepared the federal and states fuel tax and sales tax
reports. Prepared daily cash reports for management and made all bank
transfers. Lower company costs by changing various vendor contracts. We
used Peachtree and Paradox accounting systems
> July 2002 - September 2005, Cesar Color, Inc., Phoenix, AZ, Controller.
Supervised the financial accounting functions with a staff of five for an
$8,000,000 glass manufacturing company. Compiled daily cash requirement
schedules and did bank transfers of funds. Preformed month-end closings
and the preparation of financial statements. Prepared schedules of due
diligence reports and projections for financial institutions. Reviewed
and improved the accounting procedures for better internal control and
ease of obtaining management information. The company used the MAS 90
Accounting Systems.
> May 2001 - April 2002, Home Mortgage, Inc., Phoenix, AZ, Cash Manager and
Accounts Payable Manager. The company had 30 multi-state retail and
wholesale residential mortgage locations. As Cash Manager I tracked the
sources and applications of cash on a daily basis and made wire transfers
for all the bank accounts for a company producing up to $220,000,000 in
mortgages per month. This included the bank reconciliations of eight
operating and overseeing six trust accounts. In July my position added
the Accounts Payable Manager's responsibilities to help in the company's
overall accounting functions. I supervised the accounts payable staff
and dealt directly with the company's vendors. I made most of the
journal entries required in preparing the monthly financial statements.
Accounting system is Great Plains Dynamics
> October 1997 - January 2001, Franklin Covey Co., Time Index Division,
Phoenix, AZ., Controller. Responsible for the supervision of the overall
general accounting, training of staff. The preparation of monthly
financial statements for a $3,500,000 company with supporting divisional
schedules. Calculated the labor and material costing and performed all
payroll and human resource functions for the division. Coordinated the
transformation into two new corporate accounting systems. Setup a banking
system that saved the division over $35,000 per year. The accounting
system was Great Plains Dynamics and Peachtree accounting.
> June 1996 - August 1997, Auto Safety House, Phoenix, AZ, Accounting
Manager. Supervision of the accounting staff of five. Prepared monthly
financial statements for a $30,000,000 bus sales and service dealership.
Performed the payroll functions for the Arizona distributor of Bluebird
school buses. Prepared annual work papers and supporting schedules for
the certified audits. Improved the coordination of financial information
between accounting, bus sales, parts sales and service departments.
Preparation of the sales tax reports for the Phoenix and Tucson locations
and preparation of payroll for up to 170 employees.
> January 1986 - May 1996, Arizona Home Manufacturing, Inc., Mesa, AZ,
General Contractor and Controller. Supervised up to 25 employees in the
accounting, sales and production facility for panelized wall sections for
home and cabin kits used in their construction. Preformed all of the
functions of the general contractor and controller. Improved purchasing
of materials at lower costs, handled all financing, designed homes for
customers and scheduled construction crews and subcontractors on all
projects.
> Other Controller Positions: Airline Company (changed Alaska's Workers
Compensation regulations), Anchorage, Alaska; National Restaurant Chain
(setup in-house accounting for 80+ restaurants), Scottsdale, Arizona;
Commercial Construction Company, Phoenix, Arizona.
> 1968 - 1996, Accounting Supervisor and Tax Manager for various accounting
firms. Senior accountant and tax manager with several Certified Public
Accounting firms, partner and owner of public accounting and tax
businesses with up to 12 employees. Prepared monthly financial
statements, payroll tax reports and sales tax reports for various
clients. Handled all income tax, payroll tax and sales tax audits. I
have extensive experience as the primary income tax return reviewer, and
tax researcher. Built up and maintained my tax practice from 1983
through present.
Education and Achievements:
Received BS degree in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston,
Louisiana.
Licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service in 1976.
Accredited Business Accountant by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy
and Taxation.
