WORK EXPERIENCE

July 2009-Present

Research Associate - Analytical Chemistry, Cellana LLC, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

. Support the research facility for cultivation of marine microalgae

with enhanced neutral lipid content for biofuel development.

. Assist in optimization of lipid extraction and purification of

microalgae biomass for sample preparation for analysis using classical

and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) methods.

. Participate in development, validation and performance of analytical

methods for lipid characterization of microalgae - evaluation of

triglyceride accumulation using fluorescence assay, as well as

separation and quantitation of lipid classes using thin-layer

chromatography with flame ionization detector (TLC/FID) and GC/FID,

and determination of fatty acid methyl ester distributions using

GC/MS.

. Prepare standard operating procedures and implement statistical

quality control for analytical methods for lipid characterization in

compliance with ISO 17025.

January 2006-August 2008

Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama

. Carried out protein expression in bacterial cells, isotopic labeling

of recombinant protein, and protein purification via Fast Protein

Liquid Chromatography (FPLC) and gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).

. Studied enzyme activity, kinetics, and inhibition and binding by

potential drug candidates using fluorescence and NMR spectroscopy.

. Instructed Undergraduate Organic lab sessions and performed

confirmative identification analysis of the obtained products by

utilizing various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques - HPLC,

GC/MS, UV-VIS, and FT-IR.

. Completed a special course "Organic Structure Determination with NMR

and MS."

certified, Plovdiv, Bulgaria

. Developed 30 lab prototypes of plant extracts as bioactive

ingredients for cosmetic and perfumery products by using static and

dynamic solid-liquid extraction, atmospheric and vacuum evaporation,

and vacuum filtration.

. Conducted pilot and scale-up tests and assisted in production

launch.

. Collaborated with Analytical lab, R&D, in developing methods for

determination of active ingredients in plant extracts by using wet

chemistry, spectroscopy, GC, and thin-layer chromatography.

. Assisted in preparation of technological documentation and Material

Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of plant extracts.
