I coordinated a mental health screening project for first grade children in
Guilford County schools. The Primary Emotional Developmental Screening
(PEDS) project conducted free mental health screening for first grade
children, provided a more thorough evaluation of children identified by the
screening as possibly needing professional services and then offered
treatment to the children who met criteria for a diagnosable mental health
problem.
This position required me to research and to develop an appropriate
screening protocol and all program related materials. I marketed the
program through meetings with principals, teachers and via large group
presentations to school professionals. I trained over seventy school
personnel to conduct the screenings and then supported and monitored these
professional as they completed the mental health screening of 967 first
grade children. I tracked data, evaluated outcomes and produced interim
and annual reports. Additionally, I provided further evaluation and
treatment services to several first grade students whose parents sought
professional help for their child.

I worked as a Child and Family Services Clinical Child Case Manager
providing case support and advocacy services to children in the 6-17 year
age range who were typically experiencing a serious level of emotional
distress along with school and/or legal problems and/or risk of out of home
placement. These young clients presented with a full range of DSM-IV-TR
diagnoses. My job was to develop a comprehensive treatment plan in
collaboration with the client, family and a multidisciplinary team and then
convene and moderate the team to assess client progress on clinical goals.
I worked to acquire, coordinate and monitor a variety of intensive mental
health services recommended by the team for my clients and request
authorization from health care insurers for needed services.
This eight month part time position (75%FTE) allowed me to maintain
employment with OPC Area Program through the mental health program
divestiture date on 6/1/06 at which time all OPC clinical programs were
closed as part of mental health reform.

weight children, at school age to evaluate for subtle developmental delays.
This evaluation included measures of cognitive functioning, school

palsy, Down's syndrome).
