Safety Specialist / Manager

Logistics / Transportation / Operations / Turnarounds / Government &

Community Relations Scheduling / Recruiting & Training / Team Building /

Project Management / Special Events

As a top-performing manager with experience in law enforcement, I've turned

around underperforming organizations, garnered cooperation with multiple

government agencies and civilian organizations, and coordinated complicated

operations. I make a positive and lasting impact by building cohesive

teams. My abilities include:

o Devising strategies that enable the smooth flow of operations.

o Building and training effective teams that successfully meet goals.

o Planning and implementing strategies for special projects.

o Acting as liaison with other agencies to build cooperation and buy-in

to initiatives.

o Developing strategies to mitigate crises.

I am a respected supervisor, regarded as approachable, loyal and

trustworthy. I have attended training in incident mgmt., FEMA,

instructor/facilitator, and diversity. I earned a degree in Law Enforcement

from The Hawkeye Institute of Technology and completed a certificate in Law

Enforcement Mgmt. at Northwestern University.

Selected Accomplishments

Instituted flexible teams to enhance performance. Faced with low morale at

first district command, created small teams of Troopers to target

enforcement for events and heavy traffic demands. Allowed Troopers to alter

shifts and assignments as needed, creating greater autonomy which increased

morale, as well as public safety.

Built cooperation among agencies to increase public safety. Relationships

with local government agencies was tenuous. Personally visited heads of

each department, offering assistance and a spirit of camaraderie.

Alleviated suspicion, building an open dialog between agencies to increase

effectiveness of all departments.

Assured smooth operation of special event. Security was paramount for The

National Governor's Conference held in Des Moines. Spent a year in planning

the inter-agency security effort, creating an action list and preparing

contingency plans. Oversaw hotel security, deploying Troopers 24 hours a

day with zero incidents reported.

Coordinated emergency response. During record flooding, roads needed to be

closed to ensure public safety. Assessing resources, developed detour

routes, built roadway barricades and coordinated personnel on a 24-hour

schedule. No major incidents of danger to stranded motorists or vehicles

were reported for three days.

Ensured successful operations. An F5 tornado struck a local town,

instigating an emergency response for rescue and recovery. Working with

multiple agencies, secured roadways, instituting evacuations and curfews

due to lack of water and basic utilities. Secured location for 10 days,

ensuring safety to both people and property.

Recognized for superior efforts. As a Trooper, was assigned to a section of

highway with a high rate of commercial vehicle crashes. Conducted detailed

roadside inspections, concentrating on driver hours and fatigue. Ensured

tired drivers were taken off roadway and rested. Decreased preventable

crashes 75%.
