My professional career began with my presence as a stockbroker/financial
adviser. This field endowed me with the ability to listen carefully to the
prospective investor and therefore fulfill objectives while yet serving the
firm's interest. I instilled trust in these prospective investors, and
demonstrated to these same individuals that their interest came first.
All of these characteristics which I developed produced revenue of and by
itself, but more to the point, they enabled me to continually build my
business through the attenuation of referrals.
(I have emphasized these traits in order that you gain an understanding of
at least one method I would pursue to increase your business.)
Another technique which I employed in my background was to go to the local
high school and establish an evening course, primarily for senior citizens.
This course not only had wide appeal (as these attendees were reluctant to
seek financial advice through a brokerage firm), but also, it drew those
having the means to invest and who felt more comfortable in a class-room
setting.
(Once again, those attendees who became my clients produced ongoing source
of revenue, and a stream of qualified referrals.)
Subsequent to this career, I entered into another field
representative of our modern society. That was the area of Data
Communications. As before, both my sincere approach, and product knowledge
generated orders and referrals.
The forays into these two successful experiences have
happened for one vital reason; it is called salesmanship. To put it another
way, however any business needs to grow, it does so through those company
representatives who enthusiastically and realistically portray those
companies' products and services which is instrumental in growing the
business.
