Background - Coal is mined using giant machines and then transported on

vehicles to wherever it is needed. These machines and vehicles consume

diesel. Estimation of quantity of procurement was my prime responsibility

and also its distribution and maintaining records, overseeing the work of

my subordinates and helpers.

However, this was not my first opportunity overseeing the purchase of

goods. While working as a foreman in Electricity Department, it was my

responsibility to purchase all kinds of electrical goods. This included

preparing order, billing and distribution.

A) Key responsibilities related to procurement of electrical goods as a

Dy.

Foreman (Electric Department):

. Develop and update purchasing and planning electrical goods as per

demand.

. Ordering, billing, store entry and distribution.

. Manage and develop the existing and potential supplier pool.

. Search for new potential suppliers.

. Negotiate with local suppliers; prepare price comparisons.

. Effective and proactive liaison with other departments as necessary to

forecast, plan to meet purchase deadline, to bundling of demands.

. Make decision in cooperation with management.

. Reporting as necessary.

B) Key responsibilities related to procurement of diesel as a Foreman

(Diesel):

. Planning quantity of diesel to be purchased depending on average daily

consumption by the machines and transport vehicles.

. Reporting the demand to the Engineer.

. Overseeing the duties of juniors on accurate distribution/supply of

fuel to machinery and vehicles as per working hour metre.

. Maintenance of record.

Leadership:

. Supervised 20 electricians as Dy. Foreman, assigning them tasks

related to breakdowns and local emergencies.

. Supervised 10 junior employees as Foreman (Diesel).

Personal Strengths:

. Enjoyed helping employees and working with people in all areas. Known

as a cooperative team player and a diligent, responsible employee, was

transferred from the Electrical Department to the Department of Diesel

Supply and Management to put a check on the unethical practices

related to supply of diesel. Career encompassed 40 years of increasing

ethical issues.

Purchasing and supply management is an important role for any business or
