Tax Planning: Designed tax efficient international structure for several U.S. businesses (aircraft and parts, e-
commerce, banking and insurance, travel, etc). Countries in scope include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China,
India, European Union Member States or South Africa.
Tax audit: Defended several clients in relation to audits performed by local tax authorities (mainly European
Union)
Tax Research: Researched U.S. and foreign tax laws though database such as Westlaw, LexisNexis and
IBFD as well as tax authorities websites and tax codes. Also researched tax treaties through the Tax Analyst
database.
Training and presentation: Presented VAT training sessions and VAT hot topics seminars to U.S. businesses
management (PwC San Francisco International Tax Seminar 2012 and 2013).
Audit: Analyzed the indirect tax positions of multinational businesses (including energy company) to support
internal audit teams (FAS 5 report).
Sales and Use Taxes
Inbound transactions: assisted several foreign businesses to determine whether they had sufficient nexus to
register and account for sales tax in the U.S. When required to register, assisted foreign businesses to
register for taxes and set up their indirect tax compliance.
Domestic transactions: Assisted a microchip manufacturer to set up its ERP system for sales and use tax
purpose. Projects involved the management of exemption certificates and the gathering of relevant data to
calculate sales and use taxes.
Enterprise Resource Planning
Led several ERP (Oracle and SAP) implementations for businesses in the semi-conductor industry. These
projects involved the gathering of relevant data, drafting the system requirements, ensuring the tax codes
implemented within the system were correctly configured and that the ERP system was correctly set up for indirect
tax compliance (VAT returns, invoicing and other reporting).
French Tax and Customs Authorities September, 2004 – July, 2007
F ight against Fraud Bureau - L egal Adviser
Coordinated EU wide audits with the EU commission (OLAF) in relation to customs, excise and VAT fraud.
Led several high stake EU tax meetings to define at the EU level the fight against VAT fraud. These meetings
involved rewriting parts of the EU VAT directive to ensure the interests of both businesses and government
were protected.
Coordinated nationwide audits in relation to VAT and excise taxes.
Participated in several EU discussion groups to define the requirements for VIES (VAT Information Exchange
System) database. This system is currently used to detect and prevent VAT fraud.
Negotiated and drafted good faith agreements and indirect tax rulings on indirect taxes, excises and taxes on
polluting activities.
