EMPLOYMENT

Feb 2006 –June 2012 - Mental Health Management (MHM)

MHM manages the behavioral healthcare for inmates within the Philadelphia Prison System. I

worked there part-time until I accepted a supervisory role in Nov 2011. My duties included

triaging behavioral health sick-calls, assessing routine, urgent and emergency psychiatric

referrals, and individual counseling. I had clearance to work at any of 6 Philadelphia Prisons. I

complete bio-psycho-social assessments on new inmates, assess for risk and refer to the prison

psychiatric hospital as appropriate. I utilize the prison’s Lock &Track computer application to

document my work as well as progress notes. I also perform segregation rounds for inmates

placed in protective custody as well as administrative segregation, where I assess them for fitness

to remain in segregation. In my supervisory role there, I was responsible for managing the

productivity of licensed and bachelor-level social workers, attending weekly MHM

administrative meetings as well as weekly prison department-head meetings with the Warden. I

was required to attend monthly behavioral health statistical meetings with the Warden and the

medical staff representative. I also attended monthly meetings with representatives from all the

prison service vendors and inmate block representatives to hear and address their grievances.

4/28/03 – 10/31/11 - Aetna Behavioral Health

I’ve worked in various capacities during my tenure at Aetna. I began as a concurrent review care

manager; a specialty care manager and as a supervisor in those departments. I currently supervise

an Intensive Case Management (ICM) team and a provider-focused Out-Patient Case

Management (OPCM) team. My ICM team provides telephonic case management services for

Aetna members who are diagnosed with co-morbid medical, psychiatric and/or chemical

dependence issues. My OPCM team is an outpatient provider focused telephonic case

management program with the goal of collaborating

with those providers to promote member-centric treatment outcomes. My responsibilities have

included leading team meetings, Medical Director Rounds, individual supervision, conducting

telephonic and documentation audits; monitoring/balancing caseloads, manage scheduling, time

sheets and employee paid time off. I participate in various workgroups ranging from workflow

changes to new initiatives, as well as overcoming systemic barriers to effective telephonic case

management and medical necessity decision making.

I worked in various social work capacities in diverse settings such as behavioral health hospitals

and substance abuse treatment facilities. (Belmont, Kirkbride, Horizon House). I worked with

various populations including those with co-occurring disorders and those with forensic issues. I

completed bio-psychosocial assessments, developed treatment and aftercare plans and facilitated

psycho-educational groups as well as individual and family therapy.

9/02-3/03 Mobile Therapist - Carson Valley School

I worked as a contracted Mobile Therapist in the wrap around service program. Duties included

provision of in-home therapy to at-risk youth in foster-care or group-home settings. Developed

treatment plans based upon issues identified in the psychological evaluations. Completed

compliance reports for the funding source and participated in multi-disciplinary staff meetings.

7/98-8/02 Clinical Coordinator / Director Intake Services - Girard Medical Center

As Senior Behavioral Specialist / Clinical Coordinator, I recruited and behaviorally assessed

inmates in the Philadelphia prisons for release to our 6-month Dually-Diagnosed Forensic

Intensive Recovery Residence. I supervised a BH Social Worker and two other Behavioral

Specialists and was responsible for utilization management, writing individualized treatment

plans, conducting psycho-educational groups and individual and family therapy. I worked with

the program director and interdisciplinary staff to implement therapeutic strategies and

programmatic adjustments. Dec. 2000 - Promoted to Director of the Behavioral Intake

Department. In this role I was responsible for the daily operation of the behavioral health intake

department. Duties included hiring and supervising staff. I oversaw the intake and placement of

consumers into clinically appropriate therapeutic programs. I scheduled coverage for around the

clock shifts. Developed and submitted an annual budget, tracked intake data and developed

performance improvement initiatives. I cultivated cooperative working relationships with referral

sources throughout the city. I also attended monthly FIR meetings facilitated by CODAAP

Participated in departmental meetings and facilitated my own staff meetings.

Sept 2000 – Dec. 2000 - North East Treatment Ctr. - Philadelphia, Pa.

I provided individual and group therapy to adult males 18-24 years of age with substance abuse

and criminal justice issues. Developed treatment plans, supervised the submission of urine/drug

screen samples. I submitted weekly reports to the courts and probation departments and

concurrent reviews for the funding source.

7/94 - 9/97 Youth Advocacy Inc. - Phila. Pa.

Youth Transport Specialist Supervisor. Duties- Supervised a staff of six drivers for the purpose of

taking custody of and transporting juveniles who have been adjudicated as delinquent to and

from juvenile detention facilities. The youths were handcuffed and shackled at the Youth Study

Center and securely and safely transported to the designated detention facility. I handled all

scheduling and time sheets and drove as well. I was also responsible for the maintenance of the

vehicle and all mechanical restraints and emergency equipment.
