WORK EXPERIENCE
Klapperich Lab for Diagnostics and Global Healthcare Technologies, Boston, MA January 2011 – Present
Graduate Research Assistant
• Completed iterative designs of a microfluidic chip using SolidWorks to concentrate bacteria samples
from volumes ranging from 4 to 50 microliters to a final volume of 100 nanoliters for use in a point-of-
care diagnostic of septic infections
• Produced microfluidic chips using MEMS fabrication techniques such as photolithography and hot
embossing
• Designed a system to transfer 100 nanoliter output sample for bacterial identification
• Designed and performed experiments to test chip and transfer efficiency
• Trained and managed undergraduate students to work on independent research projects to support the
main project
• Aided in and organized laboratory duties to maintain a clean work environment
• Trained students and other researchers for use of lab equipment and managed equipment scheduling
• Worked on a multidisciplinary team comprised of professional and academic mechanical and biomedical
engineers, machinists, microbiologists, and chemists
Boston University Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boston, MA September 2012 – December 2012
Graduate Teaching Fellow, Mechanics I: Statics
• Attended lectures to guide students through in-class group problems
• Led tutoring hours for 8 hours per week to help students with homework and exam preparation
• Organized and graded semester design project and led lab sessions related to the project

Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation, Brookline, MA January 2010-February 2011
Microfluidic Engineering Intern
• Manufactured microfluidic chips for lab-on-a-chip influenza diagnostic
• Used thermal bonding to seal the chips and added a porous polymer monolith to the chip
• Performed quality analysis on the chips: testing for leaks, channel roughness, and bonding failure
• Tested chip efficacy in detecting flu RNA by comparing on-chip trials to standard off-chip controls
SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT
Tooth Phone – Design of an Audiodontic Hearing Aid September 2009 – May 2010
• Designed a non-invasive hearing aid to be worn on the patient’s tooth
• Used magnetostrictive materials to design a micro-actuator to apply vibrations to the patient’s tooth
enabling them to hear via bone conduction pathways
• Performed proof of concept tests for functionality of first generation prototype of the device
RELEVANT PROJECTS
Model of a Continuous-Flow Real-Time PCR Microfluidic Chip Spring 2012
• Modeled cyclic temperature changes in a microfluidic channel using fluid dynamic and heat transfer
COMSOL modules
• Used results of the model to optimize current design of the chip for the desired current temperature
profile
Automated Reagent Pump for Filling Microfluidic Chips Fall 2011
• Designed the complete mechanical system for an automated reagent pump to fill microfluidic chips
using SolidWorks
• Reduced cycle time from 10 minutes per chip to 90 seconds per chip
• Laid out framework for control systems, electrical and software design, and user interface using
Microsoft Visio
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
Vice President for Engineering Student Government September 2009 – May 2010
• Acted as a liaison between students and administration of the college
• Hosted academic seminar series to expose undergraduates to research performed in the college
• Planned science related volunteer opportunities for students in the college
• Planned and promoted social events for students of the college
