Gwinnett Health System, Lawrenceville, GA

2002-August 2013

One of the busiest Health Systems in the State generating approximately $2

billion of annual revenue through 3 Hospitals and over 20 outpatient

locations throughout Gwinnett County, GA. It is comprised of 5,000

employees that provide quality healthcare services annually to more than

150,000 inpatients and over 500,000 outpatients.

Assistant Vice President - Information Services (August 2007 - August 2013)

Acts as the Chief Technology Officer for the organization spanning both

patient and information technologies overseeing the growth in technology to

support fully computerized ancillaries and the implementation of an EHR

along with establishing a community HIE. Also acts as the CISO and HIPAA

Security Officer with responsibility for data security.

Developed a technology strategy to establish an infrastructure to

support the enhanced need for technology solutions. This included

building a highly reliable network and computing platforms and then

merging patient touching technologies like vital sign monitors and

patient monitors with the corporate network to ensure up to date data

flow. Technologies used to deliver the applications were:

Developed and implemented a governance structure for all IT projects which

includes leaders from other areas of the business. Helped in creating an

Information Technology Planning Council to help guide IT.

Was instrumental in the development of plans to implement, upgrade, or

replace Revenue Management systems, Advanced Clinical Systems, Quality

Reporting systems, and Ancillary Systems to bring the Health System to

Meaningful Use Stage 1 attestation.

Developed plans and drove the implementation of internal private cloud

computing. Through this initiative the cost of growing from 40 to over 800

servers and from .9TB to over 1 PB of storage was decreased by over 20%.

Initiated a service contract review with key partners to decrease annual

maintenance costs by over $1,000,000 and limit increases in future years.

Led the design and implementation of a security framework based on NIST

standards

Planned and led the implementation of the IT and Medical Device

infrastructure for the opening of a new hospital location, the addition of

a 155 bed patient tower on another hospital campus, and implementation of a

Cardiovascular Care Center including 2 EP Labs, 3 Cath Labs, 2 CV-OR's, and

a 20 bed Cardiac Care unit.

Planned and led the implementation of the medical equipment to outfit the

renovation of a 10 suite OR complex, including lights, booms, and HD

integration.

Led the selection and implementation teams for fully automated user

lifecycle management decreasing the turnaround on login creation and

account disabling on separation to under 24 hours.

Responsible for infrastructure management and planning for a dynamically

growing IT department. This included the planning and implementation of

data communications, data center resources, desktop support tools

Led the evaluation, planning and implementation of a SAN

Worked with HP to develop and bring to market their Medical Archiving

System(MAS) and implemented it for long term document and image archiving.

Planned, helped design, and oversaw the construction of a secondary data

center to house redundant copies of "Care Critical Systems" to reduce

recovery times in the event of an outage

Led the evaluation, planning, and implementation of a wireless network to

support bedside scanning and enhanced wireless telecommunications.

Expanded and enhanced the wired network to support highly reliable, high

speed transmission of medical images.

Championed the purchase and implementation of desktop management tools to

Organized and project managed the conversion of the EAI engine from

SeeBeyond to Infor Cloverleaf.

Director - IS Operations (February 2002 - August 2003)

Responsible for the day to day operations of the IS infrastructure. This

included Data Center operations and telecom operations. Oversaw expansion

of the data center in both scope and staff.

Led the evaluation, planning and implementation of automated backup

software with an unattended tape library.

Redesigned the data center to allow for growth from under 200square feet to

over 800 square feet.

Led the selection and implementation team for PBX automation with

interfaces to the hospital information system so that the Operators could

effectively track patients.

Drove the conversion from serial attached line printers network attached

laser printers for all IS reporting.

Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, Lawrenceville, GA

2001-2002

County Government providing a full range of services to the largest county

in the State of Georgia. One of the top 10 fastest growing counties in the

nation throughout the 1990's and early 2000's.

Information Technology Manager

Responsible for Desktop Support for all County Government department.

Departmental responsibilities included the development of both hardware and

software desktop standards and budget development and administration.

Developed and implemented a desktop standard that allowed for a

movement from purchased desktops to leased desktops. This

brought all desktops to a current technology standard and allowed for

the deployment of CRM and other customer service tools to be

deployed.

Negotiated and executed a new Microsoft licensing agreement providing

the entire Microsoft Software suite to all county computers while

decreasing the annual licensing expense by 18%.

Keyeon, LLC, Lawrenceville, GA

2001-2002

A start-up offering a business to employee portal company developing

solutions on the Broadvision software platform. The vision of the company

was to provide a single portal for all interactions between the business

and the employee. It was a joint venture between 4 companies including HP

and Broadvision.

Director of Information Technology/CIO

Responsible for all Information Technology including, LAN/WAN data

communications, Telecommunications, Desktop support, help desk, Data Center

operations including outsourced and co-located server operation, Network

Operations, System Administration, and IT contingency planning.

Departmental responsibilities include the budget planning, development, and

administration, contract negotiation and administration, and capital

expenditure planning

Planned, purchased, and implemented a data network including Cisco routers,

switches, and firewalls, Extreme Networks Switches, and Cisco and 3COM

telephony. The entire network was designed and delivered $100,000 under

budget and on schedule.

Negotiated a Contract for hosted data center services, which included a $2M

Series 2 cash investment by the hosting provider and full managed hosting

services for 5 years.

WellStar Health System, Kennesaw, GA

1997-2001

A 5 hospital and 80+ Health System located in Cobb, Paulding, Douglas, and

Cherokee county Georgia. The flagship hospital incudes one of the busiest

emergency rooms in the State with a 550 bed medical center offering a full

range of medical services. The System as a whole sees over 500,000

patients annually.

Director of Information Technology (1998-2001)

Responsible for all Information Technology including, LAN/WAN data

communications, Telecommunications, Desktop support, help desk, Data Center

operations in 3 outsourced and co-located server operation, Network

Operations, System Administration, Oracle/SQL Database Administration,

application development, application implementation, and IT contingency

planning. Departmental responsibilities include the budget planning,

development, and administration, contract negotiation and administration,

and capital expenditure planning.

The plan and implementation of an entire new standardized data network

saving the organization $125,000 annually in employee costs and $300,000

over a 3 year period in maintenance costs.

The plan and implementation of a new standardized voice communications

system increasing satisfaction with the voice communications system and

saving the organization approximately $750,000 in year one due to the

prevention of lost revenue and increased productivity.

Planning and completing a complete desktop refresh of approximately 4000

PC's which increased desktop reliability and allowed for the decrease of

desktop support staff to 6 technicians. Annual savings $300,000 in

employee expenses.

The selection and implementation of a centralized storage solution for data

center operations decreasing the cost per megabyte of incremental upgrade

by 68%.

The migration of mission critical applications from HP 9000 servers to IBM

UNIX servers saving the organization $78,000 annually in support costs.

The selection and implementation of an integrated network management system

including data center management and help desk support increasing

productivity in Information Technology.

Successfully negotiated discounts in excess of 50 % on voice networking

equipment and 70% on data networking equipment.

Saved the organization $65,000 negotiating PC prices with Tier 1 hardware

disaster recovery preparedness.

Planned and implemented the migration of a hospital data center into the

combined data center.

IS Operations Manager, Bank Operations Officer (1993-1997)

Responsible for all Software and Data Distribution throughout the company

using AM:PM. Managed a small technical staff responsible for over 30,000

monthly connections to the Software distribution system, managed multiple

Software distributions projects to the entire branch network on a monthly

basis. Managed a group that assisted PC support on the installation and

configuration of the PC component of AM:PM as well as PC/Mainframe

connectivity software.

CA-7 Support Analyst (1990 - 1993)

Duties included the daily maintenance of the CA-7 scheduling package.

and testing updates to the security matrix, addition of all new jobs to the
