Tool and Die Maker

10+ years of Tool and Die experience in major automotive production

manufacturing environments.

I am recognized as an advocate of continuous improvement, and as an expert

trouble-shooter who quickly restores productivity and reduces downtime. I

am driven to achieve quality that is close to perfection, and have

particular expertise in fine, precise handwork.

Also hold Safe Crane Operation and Lift Truck Operator Certificates, and an

unblemished record of safety.

Technical Tool and Die Skills

V Trouble shooting and repairing progressive and single stage dies, as

well as robotic spot-welders; modifying dies to improve function and

decrease design flaws.

V Choosing most productive repair strategy and performing in-press die

repairs.

V Improving dimensional tolerances of progressive and transfer dies with

in-press welding.

V Maintaining strict tolerances when completing 90 straight and pencil

grinder functions.

V Designing and building sensor anti-buckle die devices; Machining and

heat-treating components for die and weld fixtures; and Rebuilding and

maintaining cam stations including aerial cams.

V Fabricating progressive and single stage dies.

V Completing engineering changes to decrease costs by improving part or

panel functions; improving performance and quality by transfer bar

adjustments and strip set-ups.

V Skillfully operating precision measuring instruments - micrometers,

calipers, height and depth gauges; and proficient use of machines -

mill, lathe, precision grinding and radial arm drill press.

V Demonstrated SMAW and GTAW ability, cutting edges and cracked

sections.

V Demonstrated knowledge of print reading and AutoCAD 2012 design.

Tool and Die Experience

Delhi Die and Mfg. Co. Ltd., Delhi ON (2012 - present)

Design and build various fixtures, dies, and mechanical devices for

automotive and food industry

Tool and Die Maker - Work in a team of 8 Tool Makers involved in

design, build, and manufacturing.

. Machined components using complex setups and trigonometry

. Designed, built and trialed mechanical fixtures built from 304

S.S.

. Planned, made a blue print, machined and produced piece parts in

house.

Toyotetsu Canada Inc., Simcoe ON (2007 - 2012)

Plant produces components for Toyota products (Lexus, Rav4 and Corolla).

Tool and Die Maker - Work in team of 10 colleagues, covering 2

production shifts, producing approximately 75 parts in a plant with 100

operators. Avid mentor for new hires.

When plant opened, spent 80% of time modifying and improving; after

spent 50% of time in preventative maintenance, 30% repairing, and 20%

troubleshooting.

. Participated in plant's set-up, ensuring dies met quality

standards (panel modifications, trim, form and pierce

modifications).

. Machined heat treated and ground components (punches, die block,

form sections).

. Recognized for excellence in welding and especially hand-

grinding.

. Identify anomalies by applying innate sense and a keen eye

(developed from intense and extensive experience); my methodology

allows for quick troubleshooting, for example:

o Called in to investigate a progressive die that buckled and

interrupted production several times throughout the day

(line was producing up to 2000 parts/day, according to

demands). After 15 minutes, identified a lifter bar, so

cleanly broken that others had not detected this source of

the problem.

o Modified part, per Toyota request, which involved trim,

pierce and surface modification. Welded and fitted machine,

and produced modification details. Ensured excellence with

punch and trim alignment, panel spotting and die trial.

turnover (many were let go due to unsatisfactory performance), in

recognition of my excellent work.

. Contributed to company's growth of approximately 25% over the 3
