PROFESSIONAL AND BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
Behr America, Inc - As the Corp Purchasing Manager for N. America, Mr Sharma
was responsible for setting up and leading the North American auto supply
chain function for the company and developing a new North American supply
base. His responsibilities included overseeing a team of tactical/strategic
buyers that were responsible for the entire P2P cycle. He was instrumental
in creating new strategic supplier alliances for the US market, negotiating
multi year contractual agreements, collaborating with Behr Germany to
develop operating synergies, develop vendor performance metrics and directly
involved in new product launches in collaboration with design engineering,
sales and manufacturing. Other categories handled incl: Office supplies,
Temp Labor, IT, T & E, etc.
Delphi Automotive - Mr Sharma led a commodity team that was focused on
increasing spend on Iron and Aluminum Castings from low cost countries in
Asia and E. Europe leading to a TCO reduction of 7%. Responsibilities
included strategy development, supplier audits/due diligence, logistics,
etc.
Mr Sharma led the company's Australian procurement div and helped develop
strategic sourcing methodologies, vendor contracts and strategies as well as
improve operational compliance in the area of procurement. He was also
responsible for training the buyers in e procurement applications - Free
Markets and Trade Matrix. His efforts helped the division meet its annual
budgeted material cost reduction target of 3.5% as well as improve its
internal controls and financial performance.
Procurement Projects with IBM and Accenture
Leading Provider Of IT Data Centers - Mr Sharma led a team that conducted a
spend analysis of procurement spend as well as diagnostic interviews of
procurement stakeholders to identify categories suitable for further
implementation from a cost reduction perspective. Further developed a
detailed strategy for Travel & Entertainment category and forecasted savings
potential.
Leading Cosmetics Company - Mr Sharma led the IBM team in the development of
a comprehensive spend analysis by aggregating indirect spend from multiple
divisions of the N American organization. Assisted the client in developing
sourcing strategies for multiple categories such as: Packaging, CAD Package,
IT, Video Production, Retail Displays, etc. Developed detailed strategic
plan for the sourcing of categories in 2012 along with forecasted savings.
Global Chemicals Manufacturer (Procurement BPO) - Mr Sharma led the
development of a comprehensive Procurement Policy Manual for the Supply
Chain organization in the US / overseas. Manual was designed to enable
greater compliance to policies as well as provide higher degree of
visibility into procurement policies & procedures among employees.
Collaborated with multiple stakeholders across the enterprise to gain
insights into business and legal requirements, developed manual content and
obtained final buy in.
Leading Engineering Firm - Mr Sharma worked as the work stream lead for the
Wireless Telecom category. Focus was on reducing wireless costs across
multiple geographies and divisions of the company. As a result of this
initiative, client was able to reduce costs by as much as 15-45 % in various
countries where initiative was rolled out.
Leading Tier 1 Auto Supplier - Mr Sharma led a SRM engagement that focused
on benchmarking current environment from an SRM perspective and developing a
to-be scenario based on industry best practices. Project also included the
development of multiple recommendations around various SRM related process
and technology solutions to help drive greater supplier collaboration and
efficiency.
Leading Healthcare Company - Mr Sharma led a team of multiple consultants at
client, focus was on cost reduction effort around multiple categories - Temp
Labor, IT (Hardware / Software), Document Management, etc leading to a
combined cost reduction of $ 14-21 M.
Leading Automotive OEM - Mr Sharma led Supply Chain Risk Management project
focused on assisting client with managing vendor bankruptcy and avoid
production disruption. Assisted client in the extraction process for Raw
materials, WIP, Finished goods and Tools from vendor sites. Second phase of
the engagement, focused on the development of detailed reports around cost
saving opportunities while negotiating final settlement with vendor. Team
was able to identify a reduction of 75% from original invoice as part of the
final settlement.
Leading Health Benefits Company - Mr Sharma led the development and roll out
of a comprehensive sourcing strategy for the temp professional services
spend ($53M / year at multiple locations. Strategy focused on rate card /
vendor mark up reduction as well as increase in vendor base to drive higher
quality and competition. Forecasted savings benefits are expected to be in
excess of 10% per year in the clerical, medical and financial temp labor
spend areas. Used Ariba tools for purpose of sourcing category
Leading Foodservice Distributor and Marketer - Mr Sharma led the development
of a detailed process map for selecting categories for the sourcing process.
As part of this initiative, team developed a comprehensive category
selection tool to assist in the decision process.
Electric / Gas Utility Company (Procurement BPO) - Mr Sharma led an IBM
team of 14 Supply Chain professionals to manage the tactical and strategic
procurement function at client location as part of this BPO engagement. Key
responsibilities include: Interfacing with senior client team members,
meeting key performance and financial metrics, developing relationships with
business units, roll out of new applications such as Emptoris and SAP,
developing/hiring new staff, managing the project budget, etc. Major
accomplishments till date: faster Purchase to Pay cycle time, development of
team skills and capabilities, full compliance is the use of e procurement
tools, higher client satisfaction with Supply Chain's input, etc. As a
result of the IBM team's performance, the client was able to achieve a costs
savings of $120M in 07.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - Mr Sharma was responsible for developing a
comprehensive e-catalog roll out strategy and implantation plan. An
important aspect of this client work was the development of a selection tool
that could be used by the client to determine suitability of a commodity
from an e-catalogs perspective. Additionally, Rakesh was responsible for the
spend data analysis, vendor questionnaires, roll out plans as well as
advising client on industry best practices, etc. Engagement also focused on
developing a strategic sourcing process guide for the IRS's ALC.
(Acquisition Life Cycle)
United States Air Force (USAF) - Mr Sharma served as the IBM commodity team
lead and client mentor for the Landing Gear Commodity team as part of the
PSCM (Purchasing & Supply Chain Mmgt) initiative. Responsible for assisting
the AFMC (Air Force Materiel Command) in developing a detailed supply
strategy that focused on driving efficiencies within the landing gear
commodity covering 15 different weapons systems. As a result of IBM's role
the client is on track to achieve a cost reduction of 20%, improve aircraft
availability by 20% and reduce lead times by 50%. The program is on track to
achieve these improvements by FY11.
Major Telecom Company - Mr Sharma was part of a IBM team to complete the
training of more than 700 call center customer service reps in 2 weeks at
the client's Call Center as part of the ongoing merger activity. The project
was completed on time and budget using external trainers.
Leading Aluminum and Zinc Producer - Mr Sharma was part of an IBM team that
assisted client with merger integration / synergy identification from a
supply chain perspective. He was responsible for assisting client in the
development of a comprehensive spend analysis of the merged companies &
developing short term and long term procurement strategies for individual
categories. As a result of this strategic sourcing initiative, client is
projected to have a combined savings of more than $40M over 3 years.
Major Petrochemicals Company - Mr Sharma led the development effort for the
creation of a comprehensive market sector strategy for the sourcing of
Industrial Gases. Project was global in scope with forecasted benefits to
the client in excess of $30M.
Major Steel Manufacturer - Mr Sharma co-lead the Arthur Andersen team to
assist the client in the development and implementation of a comprehensive
strategy that led to a reduction of the packaging spend by 10% (corrugated
and lumber,etc), vendor base consolidation by more than 15% as well as a
greater standardization of part #s. Used B2E markets RFI tool for purpose of
supplier market analysis / benchmarking, etc.
Leading Automotive 3 PL - Mr Sharma led the Arthur Andersen team in
developing a detailed roadmap for the vendor selection process. Coordinated
with global teams leading to the creation of a detailed SOR, RFP/RFQ
package, global vendor contract, performance metrics, selection criteria,
supplier conference, etc.
Leading Tier 1 Automotive Vendor - Mr Sharma helped engineer a cost
reduction of 16 % on transportation costs through the negotiation of long
term contracts with leading transport vendors in the U.S and Europe.
Consolidation of supply base from a total of 26 to less than 8. Reduction of
U.S customs duty by 2-5% on procurements from offshore suppliers.
