Professional Work Experience

Client: ALSTOM (April 2009 – till date)

Role: COMOS ADMINISTRATOR / Developer / COMOS Systems Engineer

Location: Baden-Switzerland

Job Description: COMOS system administrator / Developer, Onsite-Offshore coordinator, Requirements

gathering (as Systems Engineer) and also involved in full scale customization of COMOS as per the

needs of different organization within ALSTOM.

My involvement:

• Involved in High level design for the requirements

• Requirements gathering (as Systems Engineer) for future work-packages and modules for

COMOS customization.

• Development and Customization of COMOS application, especially in the field of P&ID, EI&C

and Catalogue and Specifications.

• Unit testing & integration testing of each COMOS upgrade.

• At the end of each release, I would be preparing and giving the Business demo for the

functionalities that I developed as part of that release. These business users are the end users who

had defined the requirements.

• Onsite coordinator and also Lead a team of size 8.

• Provide technical help towards the maintenance and development stream.

• Participate in client communication and management decisions regarding different tracks and

proposals.

• Take care of man and skill management in the team.

• Responsible for moving of working layers (.mdb file) from development to test & production

systems at the end of each project release.

• Responsible for looking after the data consistency of the existing projects in the production

system.

• Looking after other Admin activities in COMOS like setting up of new projects and necessary

configuration in different systems, Addition/modification of the users, setting up necessary user

access rights in each system.

• Upgrade of COMOS software at different servers during each software release (new patch /

release) and also take care of working layers management (restore/compare).

Highlights:

• I have worked on many work packages in almost all the areas in COMOS like P&ID (Piping and

Instrumentation diagram), EI&C(Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls), Catalogues and

Specifications.

• Worked on customization of COMOS functionalities which suits the requirements of various

standards like KKS, ANSI (UTS), NORSOK, Aluminum standards.

• In E&IC area, I have worked on the below given items

A new type of signal called Hardwired signal (and related objects, Symbols, Lists, queries) which was not

o

available in the COMOS out of the box was added as part of customization.

Additional Standard interface options (and related functionality) were added in COMOS as per my customer

o

request.

A new object called as Switchgear (and related objects, Symbols, Lists, queries) which was not available in the

o

COMOS out of the box was added and the functionality to connect their signals dynamically based on the

selected interface.

Customization of P-FUP functionality as per the client needs in COMOS.

o

Customization of SLD and Hookup related modules in COMOS.

o

Creation/deletion of measuring devices under Measurement functions as per the customer request.

o

Creation of catalogues for measuring devices, setting up rules for validating these catalogues.

o

Additional features like Search, Assignment and Un-assignment of catalogue for measuring devices are

o

provided in COMOS through customization.

Similar Catalogue creation and assignment functionality is also provided for Electrical actuators and drives.

o

Cabling workflow in COMOS was customized as per my customer request which includes new features

o

like Marshaling via automatic marshaling script etc.,

Created a new list in COMOS called as wiring list which lists all the available wires(with unique wire

o

numbers) under a start object (project).

During my last 5 years in Alstom (client), I have worked in 12 project releases related to COMOS

customization. Grown from basic developer to an expert in this COMOS package. This gives an

insight about my overall drive in learning COMOS package

Mentored fresher’s into the team. In the entire duration mentored over 7 new joiners into the team.

Client: ALSTOM (May2008– Mar2009)

Role: Software Quality Analyst

Location: Mysore-India

Job Description: Requirements engineering, developer and offshore lead for a team of 3. This project

involved in giving technical support to Quality team of 4 members in Onsite.

My involvement:

• Assisted in implementing Six sigma processes

• Involved in requirement gathering for the project. Contributed towards the specifications

preparation.

• Created 3 applications using VB6.0/VB.net to automate the project management process.

• Automated few Excel applications using Excel VBA (Macros)

• Configuration Controller and KM prime of this project

Highlights:

• Underwent Lean Six sigma Green belt training and completed a six sigma process improvement

project as part of training.

• Lead technical feasibility analysis to support onsite PMO -Quality Consultant to propose

automation of project reporting lifecycle process (project creation project status reporting,

dashboard generation etc) - a critical process area for customer organization. This includes

- Feasibility analysis for selection of technical solution

- Mapping Front-end and Back-end Workflows

- Integrating features, functionalities from various technologies like VB 6, MS-Excel-Macros, MS-

Access, Crystal Report, JSP etc

- Development of prototype

- Development and testing of tool

• Developed a tool using VB6.0 to update the dashboard with data from around 100 projects. The

scope of this tool was to reduce the work load from days to minutes. His responsibilities include

requirement gathering, feasibility study, prototype development and testing.

• I was responsible for automating many project management processes using VB6.0, VB.Net,

Excel macros.

• Worked on automation of project dashboards (excel) using Excel VBA and Macros. This helped to

minimize the manual work done to a large extent

• Macros developed in excel sheet saves roughly 4 hours per tester/end user and has been used till

now. Savings for both Infosys and Client.

Client: AIRBUS (Nov2007– Apr2008)

Job Description: Design and customization of the Reports using crystal reports 10i as the front end and

Oracle 9i as the backend.

My involvement:

• Requirements gathering and Analysis,

• Generation of reports using Crystal reports. Developed over 10 full fledged data reports as part of

this project.

• Creation of procedures, functions using PL/SQL

• Played the role of the DP Prime, main responsibility involves defect prevention in each of the

releases and show continuous improvement.
