2 diabetes mellitus. NHMRC Project grant proposal submitted. However, did
not reach the satisfactory grading for funding.
2006-2010
Singapore Study of Successful Aging [SSOSA]: A collaborative project
between NUS and UCSD, USA. Grant obtained, S$200, 000.00 (Principal
investigator)
This study evaluates the prevalence and determinants of successful aging in
65 years and older Singaporean subjects living in the community. About 500
subjects with diverse ethnic background (Chinese, Malay and Indians)
completed interview using a survey questionnaire. Study completed and data
are being analyzed.
2001-2007
Personality and Total Health (PATH) Through Life 60+ Study
(Associate investigator), 2001 started, first wave completed in 2002, NHMRC
funded project (Program grant A$ 7.7 million for 5 years).
Longitudinal study to look at risk and protection factors with normal
aging, mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Principal Investigators are
from Centre for Mental Health Research, Australian National University,
Canberra, Australia. My specific contributions: Clinical advisor and lead
clinician for consensus meeting and diagnosis of dementias.

Parkinson's Disease and Depression Study: The role of Cognitive and
Emotional Processing in the Depression of Parkinson's Disease (PIs: Ruzich

Training Fellowship $21000 and Canberra Hospital Private practice Trust

Cognition, Depression, One-Carbon Metabolism and Neuroimaging Study
(CODON): the First Episode Late Life Depression Study, 2004-2006 (PIs: Low
L-F, Kumar R, Matias M, Looi J). Project funded by Pfizer Neuroscience
$30000 and Canberra Hospital Private Practice Trust Fund $22000. This
project was designed to study medical, psychiatric and neuropsychological
aspects of depression, B vitamin status and related health measures in a
community population of healthy persons with depression.

Academic supervisor- year 4 ANU Medical School students
This is an initiative to monitor and mentor our medical graduates during
their year 4 clinical placements. I currently supervise 2 students and the
outcome is updated on Wattle database.
2013
Family Fun & Fitness program for our local community. I chaired and
coordinated a youth mental health day workshop focusing on recognition and
management of depression in young people. Youth Beyond Blue funded this
workshop. Workshop participants included Dr. Kumar, Professor Kathy
Griffiths, Ms. Kerry Crawford, Mr. Prashanth Divakar and volunteer
speakers.
