Academic Projects
Assessing the Predictability of Hospital Readmission Using Machine Learning [Master’s Thesis] 2013
[Published in the 25th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence - IAAI
2013]
Investigating predictive power of available administrative data, we discovered that substantial portion
of readmission is inherently hard to predict. It was showed that raw readmission rate as an indicator
of the quality of provided care might not be appropriate.
Used Java programming language, RapidMiner data mining software & SQL
2013
Mining hospital admission-discharge data to discover the chance of readmission
[Published in 2nd Workshop on Data Mining for Medicine and Healthcare – DMMH 2013]
Investigated combination of machine learning techniques to assess chance of patients’ readmission to
hospitals. It was discovered that lung cancer is a frequent cause of admission within hard-to-predict
patients.
Used Java programming language, RapidMiner data mining software & SQL
2012
Mining Administrative Data to Predict Falls in the Elderly Population
[Published in the 25th Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence - Canadian AI 2012]
Investigated the use of supervised learning methods for predicting falls in individuals based on
medical administrative data. Our preliminary empirical investigation yielded promising results.
Used Java programming language, Rapidminer data mining software & SQL
2012
A Fault-Tolerant Distributed System - Itinerary Service
Developed a fault-tolerant distributed system by means of Remote Method Invocation in Java.
Gained a great insight of distributed systems concepts (Communication concepts, Recovery
techniques, Transaction Management, Deadlock Resolving, Group Communication Methods)
Used Java programming language & RMI library

Delinquency & Friendship Relation Inference of Students' Networks in Dutch High Schools
Applied Machine Learning methods (Naïve Bayes and Decision Trees) on delinquency & friendship
network data available on Dutch high schools to infer the friendship between students & delinquency
level of individuals.
Used Java programming language, RapidMiner data mining software & SQL
2012
Study of Correlation between Delinquencies of Students and their Social & Individual
Attributes in Dutch High Schools
Studied association between delinquency of students & their individual & social attributes by use of
multilevel mixed models. A number of interesting social science theories confirmed mathematically.
Used Java, SAS & SQL
