ability to develop reliability test conditions for mechanical and electronic failure mechanisms. Broad and deep track record for

implementing corrective actions in manufacturing environments including both on-line processes and OEM testing. Extensive

experience leading cross-functional teams to meet quality and reliability goals, as well as academic leadership. Advanced interpreting

skills for images from Optical Microscopy, SEM, EDX and X-Ray imaging.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

MIEMIE DESIGN SERVICES, INC. 2012-2013

Leading industrial design consulting firm, supporting all processes from prototyping through construction.

Senior Scientist, Contracted to Avaya, Inc., Denver, CO

Following departure from Avaya, brought back at the company’s request to complete product level XRF spectroscopy for compliance

with RoHS-2 in the majority of Avaya products. XRF Spectroscopy is a relatively quick, acceptable method designed to detect many

restricted elements in a product such as lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and bromine.

AVAYA, INC. 2001-2012

Global provider of business communications and collaboration systems.

Distinguished Member of Technical Staff/Research Scientist III, 2008-2012

Westminster, CO

Promoted from Research Scientist II. Led the day to day operations of a Failure Analysis Laboratory, including all activities and a staff

of seven. Performed more than 50 analyses per year on products, subassemblies and components, from the product level to the root

cause of the failure. Activities led to manufacturing process improvements, product design improvements and increased product

reliability.

Left the company when the department and laboratory was closed.

Wrote more than 100 technical reports per year, detailing the results of analyses, with recommendations to correct cause failures.

Performed elemental analyses on micro-contamination to determine the cause of corrosion. Recommendations led to refined

analysis techniques which were adapted for individual products.

Partnered with SQ engineers to increase yields and troubleshoot problems related to components and manufacturing processes.

Analyzed LCD failures to show an issue with patterned glass impacting the reliability of displays. As a result, the failure rate of

the displays dropped from 50% to near zero.

Asked to design, purchase equipment and train staff in sister laboratory in Zhongshan, China.

Honored as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff.

Member of Technical Staff/Research Scientist II, 2001-2008

Westminster, CO

Specified all equipment, floor space requirements and personnel for materials analysis laboratory. Monitored installation and trained

staff on SEM/EDX, cabinet X-ray system, electronic test equipment, FT-IR and XRF. Originally hired as a Software Test Engineer, to

verify product performance for a messaging product.

Analyzed motor failures on disk drives, determining the failures were due to incorrect manufacturing operations that left a lip of

metal that restricted oil flow on the bearing. Finding led to reimbursement from the manufacturer, due to high field failure rate.

Worked with a component manufacturer on failure rates, and found excessive solder was causing low voltage failures.

Developed a screen of existing inventory that enabled production to continue until a new source of clean components was available.

Verified through rescreening.

LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES, INC. 2001

Multinational telecommunications equipment company.

Systems Verification Engineer, DACS Telecommunication System

Westminster, CO

Developed and executed software verification testing on long distance optical telecommunications switches. Used the product’s

Requirements and Telecommunications Standards to assess software and hardware for correct operation. With division closure, asked

to move with team to Avaya.

Conducted system software testing on SONNET/SDH protocols.

Developed 50 verifiable procedures for local and long distance telecom switch testing.

Achieved the correction of 20 software errors to enable equipment to work as specified.

FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1998-2000

Leading community college in the greater Denver region.

Professor of Electronics/Electronics Department Head

Westminster, CO

Taught classes in the Electronics Technical Program, including Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics and Programming. Managed

department staffing, advised and tutored students as needed. Departed for a better opportunity.

RELEVANT PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Developed engineering, software and failure analysis skills at a succession of tech companies:

Atmospheric Instrumentation Research, designed and implemented testing routines to calibrate radiosondes; Maxtor Technology,

test engineer; Storage Technology, product engineer for Servo Pre-amp and Failure Analyst of ICs; and FMC Corporation, process

engineer maintaining processes from front end silicon processing to packaging and testing in manufacturing high-power diodes and

SCRs.

PATENTS AND PUBLICATIONS

Holder of three US patents and author of five articles in technical publications.

EDUCATION

Bachelor Degree, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Leveraged and applied chemistry and biology majors into an engineering emphasis.
