PROFILE: CHEMICAL/PROCESS ENGINEERING MANAGER with over 18 years of experience including:
Continuous Improvement, LEAN Projects, Cost Reduction, and Troubleshooting
New Product Development, Process Scale-Up, Design of Experiments (DOE)
Manufacturing In-Process and Finished Product Quality Control, Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Environmental Compliance, Title V and NPDES Permitting, Industrial Hygiene
PROFESSIONAL ERACHEM COMILOG, INC. - New Johnsonville, TN (2006-Present)
EXPERIENCE: Manager of Process/Technology, Quality Assurance, & Environmental Compliance
Direct the Process Engineering, QA Lab, and Environmental functions to support the safe, predictable, and
cost efficient operation of the site’s Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide (EMD) process. Perform process
quality analysis and manage continuous improvement efforts. Coordinate as the quality and environmental
liaison for customer and regulatory inquiries. Supervise staff of 7-9 direct and 8-10 indirect reports.
Accomplishments:
Train various salary and hourly staff on the site’s process flow, SOPs, and manganese process chemistry.
Administer to the Capital Plan and Budget in engineering, environmental, QA lab, and industrial hygiene.
Coordinate the site’s energy reporting for electricity and natural gas usage and conservation action plans.
* Developed an electrical cost savings plan for the site’s rectifiers to reduce annual electricity costs by
$220K. PI data collection of voltages was compared to historical cell room electrical connectivity.
* Reduced Title V GHG emissions with natural gas reduction plans for future minor modifications.
Implemented various reagent, LEAN, OEE, and yield improvement projects.
* Replaced the site’s soda ash for lime as a superior and more cost effective neutralization reagent to
net an annual savings of $350K. This also resulted in a 68% reduction in Title V air emissions.
* Facilitated LEAN Rapid Improvement Events utilizing standard work, kanban, and 5S.
* Directed four new OEE measures to improve the site’s ore milling, reduction, cell harvesting, and
product finishing costs and efficiencies. This included training of various OEE coordinators.
Initiated and sustaining an Environmental Management System (EMS) and certification to ISO 14001.
Perform ISO, environmental, housekeeping, and behavioral safety audits as a Lead Auditor.
Manage overall site compliance with federal, state, and county regulations involving environmental
permit modification, renewals, and reporting requirements.
ERACHEM COMILOG, INC. - Baltimore, MD (1998-2006)
Senior Process and Environmental Engineer
Provided process engineering support in accordance with ISO 9001 in the production of manganese based
oxides and salts. Managed hazard assessment, startups, operator training, SOP revision, and process scale-
up for process improvement/R&D development. Indirectly supervised 8-11 salary and hourly employees.
Accomplishments:
Supported the startup of a $2.4M industrial wastewater treatment plant located onsite.
* Tasked with developing the site’s first PLC process control plan for semiautomatic operation with
interlocked steps due to NPDES permit and desire to proceed with minimal operator intervention. Plan-
Do-Check-Act approach used to further improve the plant’s efficiency with water quality results.
Implemented and maintained OEE measures on multiple production lines. Pareto causes of production
losses and justified process and quality improvements for an annual savings in excess of $500K.
* Improved OEE from 35 to 64% by focusing on availability and performance losses while saving on
cost of production in terms of labor, maintenance, and yield. This project also netted capital cost
avoidances by debottlenecking the process while also increasing process capability.
Obtained certification as a Class 6 Industrial Wastewater Works Operator through the state of Maryland.
Conducted industrial hygiene monitoring in accordance to the site’s air quality program.
Performed ISO, environmental, and safety audits as a Lead Auditor.
Maintained overall site compliance with federal, state, and county regulations involving environmental
permit applications and reporting requirements.

RODEL, INC. - Newark, DE (1997-1998)
Process Development and Transfer Engineer
Performed scale-up and process characterization research projects in an ISO 9001 environment. Assessed
R&D formulations of semiconductor chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) slurries for raw material and
process safety. Evaluated raw material availability and variability, process equipment requirements,
laboratory testing, and production procedures. Managed and maintained pilot plant production facility.
Indirectly supervised 3-6 salary and hourly employees.
Accomplishments:
Conducted and analyzed statistically designed experiments to access the effects of variability in batch
formulations and equipment settings on product performance.
Coordinated HAZOP analysis of pilot plant facility including: equipment design and procurement, storage
of raw materials, safe operating instructions for equipment and raw material usage, and wastewater/air
permitting.
Supervised and trained process engineers and R&D technicians on proper usage, scheduling, inventory,
and upkeep of pilot plant facility.

Shift Chemist
Supervised in-process testing and quality control of emulsion and suspension based polymer products to
ISO 9001. Investigated and resolved quality issues pertaining to batch, semi-continuous, and continuous
production lines. Indirectly supervised 1-3 salary and hourly employees.
Accomplishments:
Increased efficiency and throughput of production facilities through the continuous improvement of cycle
times and review of in-process testing and manufacturing standard operating procedures.
Assessed raw materials through laboratory polymerization and distillation steps in an effort to ascertain
and minimize sources of final product contamination.
