Internship
Walt Disney World, (2/20/2012 - 8/10/2012)
Lake Buena Vista, FL
Immediate Supervisor - Matthew Wooten
Phone Number - 352-***-****
. Intern - I was given the opportunity to be a part of the greatest
company in the world. It is one of the most competitive internships on
this little planet and I was awarded the position to be part of it.
Each and every day I was in charge of (not limited to) managing guest
services, managing guest safety, and making sure each and every guest
had the most "magical" experience! I worked in:
o The Grand Floridian
o The Fort Wilderness Lodge
o The Beach Club Resort
o The Polynesian Resort
o The Animal Kingdom Lodge
o The Contemporary Resort
o And more!
Needless to say, I have worked in some of the greatest resorts and
lodges in the world. I became part of the cornerstone of their daily
business routines, guest interaction philosophy, and much, much more.
I say, "guest interaction philosophy" because the way we were trained
to interact with guests goes well beyond the possible realm of
training from other businesses. It taught me proper etiquette and
proper manners. That sounds simple but when there are people from
around the world, it becomes much more in depth. For instance, one of
the first, most simple things we were taught was the "Disney point".
People from different countries find single-finger pointing very
offensive; Disney employees will always use full hands or multiple
fingers when pointing out directions or pointing out attractions. I'd
be writing for weeks and you'd be reading for weeks if I wrote down
everything I learned while there. I can't stress my next point enough!
Accepting the invitation to the Disney Internship has been one of my
best decisions and one of my most proud accomplishments. It was an
unbelievable experience! It was rated the 11th greatest internship in
the world. I understand why too! I learned more about the business
world, public relations, and guest service in those 6 months than I
have in my entire life. I successfully completed the Disney
Professional Internship in August of 2012.
Professional Experience
Clarke, Inc. Roselle, IL, (04/2013-Present)
Immediate Supervisor - Jennifer Dopke
Phone Number - 630-***-****
. Environmental Preservation and Conservation - Clarke, Inc. is one of
the most amazing companies I have ever worked for. They organize mass
efforts to help preserve the beautiful things in nature. Every single
year, thousands upon thousands of Clarke employees combine their
efforts to help preserve the environment. Clarke has done so well with
their conservation efforts that they have single-handedly eliminated a
deadly disease from large regions of Africa. My job at Clarke focused
on (but was not limited to) the Environmental Conservation of the
entire northeast region of Illinois. Typical days of work there
involved the identification of everything from invasive plant species
to mosquito and insect larvae. The best part of the job was the
interaction with mother earth. I witnessed so many beautiful sunrises,
deep/lush forests, very friendly animals, etc etc. The experiences
were truly one of a kind. Sure there were difficult, hard, hot days of
work but I couldn't help but enjoy almost every moment out there in
the Northeast Illinois Nature Preserves. What a great summer! Only a
seasonal position and now I look forward to the move back to Colorado!
Pool Watch Inc. Elgin, IL, (03/2010-09/2011)
Immediate Supervisor - President of the Company - Pat Berk
Phone Number - 847-***-****
. Company Manager - I was given the opportunity to manage part of a
great company. Pool Watch Inc. provided service to lakes, public
pools, private pools, etc. It provided absolute safety with the
assistance from qualified and certified lifeguards. Pool Watch gave me
the power to hire lifeguards for each pool and lake I was in charge of
managing. After I found said quality lifeguards, I was given the power
to create the work schedules for myself and for the other lifeguards.
I was also in charge of the boat cruises on the lakes, the handling of
all guest complaints/concerns and I was in charge of handling action
towards employee misbehavior. I successfully managed part of this
great company for about a year and half. If not for the invitation to
a life-changing internship, I might have been with Pool Watch Inc for
a much longer time.
Hospitality Experience
Red Robin, (11/2012-04/2013)
Immediate Supervisor - Restaurant Manager - Dave
Phone Number - 847-***-****
Server - I was in charge of successfully delivering delicious food and
beverages to each and every guest in my specific section of the restaurant.
Serving for Red Robin helped me immensely with my people-skills. That is
what I appreciated most about the opportunity to work there. It isn't the
money I make that I cared most about. I loved being an absolutely perfect
server knowing that my guests went home entirely satisfied. I've told my
boss that I would rather have 3 small tables and be a perfect server than
have four large tables just so I can make more money. It's all about
knowing your limits and the amount of work you can do while still being
nearly perfect in your performance. I received a great opportunity with
Clarke Inc and decided to hang up my apron and give my days as a server a
rest.
TGIF's (Friday's), (01/2007-09/2007)
Immediate Supervisor - Restaurant Manager - Janet
Phone Number - 847-***-****
Server - I was in charge of successfully delivering delicious food and
beverages to each and every guest in my specific section of the restaurant.
Serving for TGIF's has been and still is one of the best opportunities I
was given. It was great money, great social opportunity and simply a fun
place to work at. If I had not gone away to college, I would have worked
there longer.
Hobbies
Guitar player, song writer and singer!
Skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing!
Traveling and exploring more parts of the United States - Colorado, Utah,
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin,
Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky,
Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas are
all part of the states I have explored.
