Project Title : T heoretical and Numerical analysis of shell and tube heat exchanger

Description :

• Project involved hand calculations of shell and tube type heat exchanger using L M T D, NTU

techniques and T E MA standards.

• Project also involved geometrical modeling, meshing and CFD analysis of shell and tube heat

exchanger.

Project Title : N umerical and experimental investigation of fluid flow and heat transfer in

single, straight and zigzag Aluminum pipe heat exchanger.

Description :

T he scope of this project can be divided into two main sections:

• Constructed two heat exchangers one with straight pipe-in-enclosure and other with zigzag pipe

housed in an enclosure and compared performance experimentally.

• Car ried out Computational Fluid Dynamics based analysis of both the above geometries using

GAMBIT and FLUENT software

• Results proved that zigzag pipe heat exchanger produce 50 to 100 per cent more heat t ransfer.

Project Title :Redesign of Jaggery cooking vessel for improved heat transfer.

Description :

• Jaggery making has so far been making use of the t raditional manufacturing process hasn’t

changed much in decades. Conventional Jaggery making process and boiling pan suffer from the

d rawbacks of uneven juice heating, leading to hot spots resulting in caramelization of the juice.

F ur ther, near the boiling pan are exposed to heavy fuming.

• The project aimed at fabrication and development of a system consisting of steam bath for indirect

heating of sugarcane juice.
