Duties include processing analysis of all referred sample in accordance

with agreed standard as set by the institute of Medical Laboratory Science

Accreditation. I process work as an IMLS Registered Medical Laboratory

Scientist in appropriate discipline maintaining professional competence to

provide a diagnostic and support service to the medical and Nursing staff

and PCT s-point of care testing.

I'm involved with the identification of priority requests and process them

accordingly and to ensure that all clinical materials is stored according

I deal professionally with enquiries regarding specimens and results from

patients, doctors and other service users and to identify specimen and/or

requests that may cause problems (e.g health and safety, identification,

sample quality and/or requesting inappropriate or special tests) to refer

to senior staff if necessary.

Laboratory test and skill: I participate in the handling and manipulation

of delicate instruments and materials including regular manipulation of

very small samples requiring a high level of hand/eye coordination to

ensure valid patient results.

I process, refer, or prepare for safe storage a variety of biological

specimens on daily basis that may contain high risk organism

ensuring that all clinical materials are disposed of according to

departmental policies and in appropriate manner to handle hazardous

chemicals in reagent according to COSHH regulation.

I deal with diverse and complex variety of equipment reagent and

procedures. I perform a wide variety of both automated and non-automated

complex medical laboratory operations including setting up maintaining and

checking equipment for correct oppression e.g Microscope and complex

analysers, Micro Scan Bactec, PCR Machines, Gene Expert, Bactalert to

mention but few . .

I am involved with sorting, identifying and recording of receipts of

specimens with appropriate input of patients data into laboratory

information system. I maintain appropriate documentary records for

equipment and consumables including service records, monitoring stock

levels and report deficiencies to appropriate senior staff.

Results and Reports: I generate review, validates (at Technical and

Professional level) and report result and communicate critically abnormal

findings, in accordance with departmental policies to persons authorized to

receive them, problem relating to validity of result and decisions related

to need for further testing or referral of specimen or isolate an refer to

senior staff if required. I identify the need to issue preliminary report

and potential delays in meeting turn around time, as applicable.

I liaise with senior staff and engineers as appropriate in the event of

analyser problems of failure that might not be resolved with basic trouble

shooting.

Development: I contributed in the writing and review of departmental

standard operating procedures. Assist in the evaluation and development of

new methods and equipment. I perform experimental procedures and

participating research and development work as directed by the departmental

manager.

Supervision and Training: I supervise the work of support staff and the

works of trainee MLT staff, including student placement. I participate in

the laboratory training and development program necessary for the
