Dear Hiring Manager
I received an email from Indeed that listed job opening for position
of Cobol Developer/mainframe Architect. I would like to apply for this
position.
For the past fifteen years, I have been employed by Genworth
Financial in Lynchburg, VA. Work involved programming on a Insurance
system subsystems of tax reporting, sales reporting and online maintenance
of policies. Computer Languages used were COBOL, easytrieve Plus, Job
Control Language and Assembler Language for making mapsets on mainframe
system with previously MVS but now OS/z. I assisted in maintaining a
Third Party developed Oracle System to collect and report on all the tax
extracts from around Genworth Financial. Genworth had formal promotion
standards and documentation procedures in promoting projects. A promotion
tool used at Genworth on mainframe was ChangeMan.
While working with Diversified Technical Services, I worked on a mainframe
system converting Assembler programs to COBOL Language, correcting COBOL
programs and on a UNIX system writing Perl programs for extracts, and
helping maintain extracts/reports.
When working at Davis & Elkins College, work involved setting up PC
computers, installing software and setup/maintain a file in dBase 4 for a
Third Party. Also, for work from Third Party that we were keeping dBase
file, also had project to develop special characters to act as printer
control characters when documents sent to printer.
In the U.S. Army, I had obtained E-5 level within two years of a four year
term. As an E-5 rank especially, I supervised no less than 4 individuals.
I have had classes in C, C++, SQL and Java. Received some information in
a systems class while in college on imbedded software to control hardware.
I am looking forward to speaking with you further about the position. I
would be happy to meet with you any time be convenient for you.
Sincerely
Charles S. Hohman
