Operations/Purchasing Manager 1986-2011
• Shifted from customer service/sales to purchasing and inventory control responsibilities in 1986.
• Purchased builders’ hardware products for inventory and special order projects from over 30
manufacturers, handling all aspects of the vendor relationship.
• Supervised receiving, warehouse layout, physical inventory and accounts payable.
• Responsible for item selection, pricing policy and updates.
• Created advertising and promotional materials in various media and formats, working with
marketing, printing and advertising service firms.
• Continued management of computer operations including migration to UNIX and PC networks in
1990.
• Worked with manufacturer in Taiwan to design and import private labeled line of door locks
starting in 2004.
• Beginning in 2008, worked with web development and marketing firms to create two websites for
the company. Created and maintained product database of 10,000+ items for one of the sites.
Operations Manager 1978-1986
• In addition to continuing customer service/sales responsibilities, led installation of computer
system and input of all product and customer data.
• Managed day to day computer operations including proprietary distribution software.
• Worked with hardware and software vendors to implement system upgrades and custom software
applications.
Customer Service/Sales 1975-1978
• Inside sales, answering phones, taking orders and answering all customer inquiries.
• Wrote sales orders and expedited them through the shipping process.
• Outside sales including cold calls and new territory development, 2 days per week.
The Marshall Company was sold in April, 2011 and the Cleveland distribution center operation was
subsequently closed by the new owners in September, 2011.
