BSME Cal State Long Beach, May 2011
Passed Fundamentals of Engineering examination April 2012, EIT Certification
Summary:
Current degree in mechanical engineering. Five years experience in solar energy
system design, permitting, sales, and installation. Utilize Google Earth, AutoCAD,
Excel, and Power Point to create estimates, financial analysis, and permits for clients.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills from years of networking experience.
Able to consider all aspects of a problem and develop creative solutions that meet
requirements.
Education:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering from California State University Long Beach, May 2011.
Led a team of four to research, design, and construct a solar powered atmospheric
water generator using a vapor compression cycle with funding from a NASA CHAAT
Grant; presented project to NASA June 2011.
Completed Courses:
Design of Machine Components – Learned the basics of designing mechanical parts
by analyzing system requirements, and applying appropriate material strength,
elasticity, fatigue life, etc. to meet demands. Leader of group of five that produced
thirty page technical report and professional presentation on atmospheric water
generation. – Grade: A
Design of Mechanical Engineering Systems – Learned the product life cycle and how
to design products that meet market demands and were able to be mass produced
and brought to market with reasonable cost, time, and quality. – Grade: A
Cost Analysis – Learned to determine the cost effectiveness of a project or enterprise
while considering factors such as time value of money, alternative inve stments, and
taxation. – Grade: A
Awards and Honors:
Dean’s List, Fall 2006 & Spring 2011.
Presidents Honor List, Fall 2010 GPA 4.0 – Fluid Mechanics Lab, Materials and
Properties Lab, Kinematics and Dynamics of Mechanisms, Finite Element Methods,
Professional Practice, CAD/CAM.
Experience:
SALES ENGINEER ABC SOLAR
January 2008 - Present Torrance, CA
Designed, sold, permitted, and directed the installation of residential and commercial
grid-tie photovoltaic systems. Responded to RFP’s, generated estimates, made Excel
spreadsheets for pricing and to create bill of materials. Performed on-site visits to
determine the potential for roof, ground and elevated structure installations as well as
grid interconnection capabilities. Analyzed utility bills to find creative recommendations
and tailored bids to meet client’s requirements and maximize their incentives. Prepared
sales documents for clients showing system production, cash flows, and financial
analysis.
Once sold, created permit packages using CAD software and was responsible for
submitting to city and working with install crew to address corrections. Negotiated with
city officials and fire marshals to amend local requirements and fire set back rules on
behalf of clients to expedite permitting process. Successfully navigated city appeals
process three times out of three for projects that were rejected. Redesigned permit
template to improve our first-submittal approval rate. City of Long Beach Building and
Safety stated that our permit package was the best residential solar permit package
they had ever seen, Feb. 2011.
W orked with software designers to streamline bidding and permit process into simple
input/output generation. Managed both commercial and residential sales teams and all
accounts with Oracle based online lead database and worked together with
administration to arrange payment, supply, and installation schedules of systems being
sold. Evaluated pending projects to become familiar with potential difficulties and how
they are resolved.
