Baldwin Wallace College
Office of Academic Affairs
Over the past academic school year, I have been welcomed as a part-time faculty member for the School
Leadership Program within the Division of Education, closely working with Dr. Kaye and Dr. Hruby. It is
with great pleasure that now exists a wonderful opportunity to become a full-time member of the Baldwin
Wallace family as the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment for Academic Affairs. I am
sending you this letter as part of my formal application for the above position. After careful consideration
and reflection, I know that both my education and experiences have prepared me for such a challenging
position and that I am ready for this partnership, responsibility and upward movement.
Higher education, to me, is the cornerstone to a great society. I have long strived for a connection that
will truly make a difference in lives of many. My quest officially began at the secondary level where I
quickly rose to a variety of leadership roles. My goals always remain the same; build solid relationships
in order to empower and build capacity in people as they journey into excellence. Student engagement
and achievement has been my focus now for many years and I continue to look at the connection between
assessment, achievement and learning. In all of my leadership roles, program development and
assessment has been at the core. Taking a program and moving it to implementation is what I do best and
creating and overseeing the assessment of rigorous and relevant curriculum has always been that first step
towards deep learning. Over the past several years, I have spent a great deal of time in faculty
development as well looking at factors that impact that transition from secondary to higher education
classrooms. I have also focused on bringing high-quality online and blended programs to fruition in
response to today’s students and their needs. A new type of learning is on the horizon and understanding
that and the connection to college life requires a leader who is certainly in tune with change.
Baldwin Wallace College has a tremendous amount to offer students due to the visionary leadership of so
many people. Given an opportunity to learn and grow under this leadership is really what makes this
position so attractive. My experience at both Robert Morris University and Baldwin Wallace College has
prepared me well and exposed me to great people. I quickly discovered how leaders can make a
difference and impact both people and institutions. I know that the expectations are high for this position.
Terms like energetic, creative and vision are used to inspire. I want to focus on bringing those along with
others like results-driven, out-of-box thinker and visibility to Baldwin Wallace’s academic and student
life.
It appears that it is time for Baldwin Wallace College to take the next step in its evolution. I have spent
most of my academic career preparing for a position like this and I am certainly ready to be a part of a
transformation that will catapult this higher education institution into new frontiers. I would greatly
appreciate an opportunity to discuss my qualifications, vision and passion. Thank you.
Sincerely,
David A. Bowlin, Ed.D.
