Analytical Test Methods

Analyzed the Wet Chemistry on raw and finished products.

- Obtained the amount of crude fat by acid fat

hydrolysis and ether fat extraction. Headed a project using new Soxtec

automatic ether fat extractors in which helped advance this test method

from manual extractors to automatic evaluation allowing technician to be

more available.

- Analyzed pet care products by a variety of

methods including moisture by oven and vacuum, Karl Fischer Moisture,

TGA (Thermogravimetric Analyzer) ash, water activity, pH, and the

concentration of salt and chloride. Headed a project using Quartz fiber

crucibles which helped advance the ash test method from a seven hour

process to a twenty minute evaluation.

- Determined the degree of gelatinization of extruded products and had

the ability to work with a Dextrose analyzer (YSI) including troubleshooting

and maintenance.

- Determined the rancidity of products through

peroxide value (PV) and the percent of free fatty acids. Also assisted with

initial development of new PV UV-Vis method.

- Accessed mycotoxin operations including aflatoxin

by NeoColumn and vomitoxin.

- Determined amount of protein by LECO TruSpec

N. Developed a project using a larger sample size for more accurate

results. LECO required daily maintenance and troubleshooting. Developed

and Validated a new method for TruMac nitrogen analyzer.

- Perform routine mineral analysis and necessary

maintenance via ICP. Developed new method for mineral analysis for more

reliable results.

- Assisted in sample preparation, method varied

depending on sample size. Created and maintained log/calibration books.

Assisted in the revision of methods, SOPs and CAPAs.
