SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
Management/Leadership
. Reduced raw material inventory levels from 102% to 38% of monthly
sales in the Newark plant and from 62% to 26% in the Franklin plant.
. reduced overall plant labor costs significantly from previous years.
Through aggressive labor changes, improved lean manufacturing
practices, and improved supervisor focus the plant labor rate dropped
from $72/ ton to a rate of $49/ ton. This equates to an annual savings
of almost $500,000. This is the best in the division.
. Initiated Lean training/Concepts that eventually permeated all BCI
facilities. Initiated 5S activities in all plants; Started daily
tracking of KPMs; Started MDIs; Authored plant OGSM; and hosted
several Kaizen Events(waste: $93,000 savings in first 3 months;
productivity increase of 30% and 26% on two converting machines).
Process Improvement
. Improved plant P&L BY $550M in first year as General Manager.
Significant changes were made to reduce our labor costs. Additionally,
a culture change from managers to hourly employees have changed
attitudes and reduced our overall waste by 35%.
. reduced overall plant waste from a high of 17% to 11.22% saving the
plant $75,000 per month in raw material costs.
. Improved overall plant production. Realized significant improvement
through process controls, written procedures, and personnel
management. Production increased 21.5% on the Laminator and 11% on the
Corrugator. Waste decreased 22% on the Laminator, 11% on the Maxite
and 42% on the Slitters for a combined savings of $400,000.

Safety
. Significantly Improved Safety Records in all Three Plants. Franklin,
Newark and Fitchburg all had very poor safety records. Through
cultural change, new procedures, accountability and expectations, all
three plants received safety awards and all finished in the 10 top
safest plants in the company (Franklin and Newark were originally in
the bottom 10).
. Franklin won four "Golden Guard Awards", Fitchburg won One "Golden
Guard" and Newark won Two "Chairman's Awards" and one "Golden Guard'.
Employee Relations
. Significantly Improved Employee Relations by creating an environment
of openness, and involving and empowering employees in the process
improvement process
. Oversaw multiple plant downsizings and two plant closures. All were
done professionally and without incident. Corporate HR changed how
they shut down facilities based on our successful down sizing/shut
downs.
Operations
. Conceptualized and designed software to set-up production machinery
more efficiently. Flow charted the new process, and tested prototype.
Decreased set up time by 35% and saved over $100,000.
. Authored and installed production analysis databases in five plant
locations. Database tracks machine rate, waste, and efficiencies.
Used to spearhead waste reduction plans, improved efficiencies and
manage production. Projected savings of $250,000 per year.
