Criticism from the University of North Dakota. Other educational
accomplishments include completion, with honors, of a Broadcasting
Certificate from the prestigious Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota
and a Baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts (Theatre Performance) from the
University of North Dakota. Also, completion of a program in Secondary
Education at the University of Phoenix, Phoenix, Arizona culminating with a
license to teach English and Drama in North Dakota. Completed CLAD license
from the University of Phoenix.
Communications
A skilled communicator in both written and oral mediums. Experienced
writer in numerous areas including academic research, journalism, and
instruction of writing at the high school and middle school levels.
Completed dramatic criticism Master's thesis focusing on the topic of women
in musical theatre. Presented theory at North Dakota Speech and Theatre
Association's meeting in a critical workshop. Also, demonstrated knowledge
of broadcast media with experience in writing and editing news and
advertising copy. Have been final Copy Editor of Award Winning newspaper
for the last four years on a part time basis. As Director of Publicity and
Marketing for FMCT, created all outgoing communication with the public, for
example: created newspaper ads, set up radio interviews and advertising,
designed and generated programs and posters, arranged and prepared theatre
social events, and maintained theatre website. As Executive Assistant to a
United Stated Congressman, worked closely with other congressional offices
as well as other government offices.
Teaching
Taught both English and Drama at the Secondary Level and taught English at
the middle school level. Served as an English Instructor for freshman,
sophomore, junior, and senior level students and have experience with all
four curricula. Also taught 7th grade language arts at Valley View School
in Phoenix before my student teaching.
Curriculum Development
Developed curriculum for drama program at North High school in Fargo, ND.
Wrote and utilized my own 200 page text for classes. Developed Musical
Theatre Class, as well as Acting I and Acting II. Also developed curriculum
for 7th grade Language Arts class at Valley View. In the process of working
on Creative Drama curriculum for pre-school class.
Drama Advisor
Directed and produced one musical and one straight show each year as well
as a one act play to take to state competitions. Held responsible for a
$25,000 budget and hiring and working with a team of 2-6 adults for these
three shows. Worked with casts of 50+ children and adults. Acted as
adjudicator for the University of North Dakota Drama Festival in 2004 and
presented acting workshop for participating students. Handled all PR and
Marketing for Fargo North High Theatre.
Mentoring
Experienced many teaching and learning student visits to my classroom to
complete classroom hours for college credit. Oversaw a student teacher for
a semester and facilitated him through the student teaching process while
working closely with his college advisor. Supervised and advised intern
while Director of Publicity and Marketing at Fargo-Moorhead Community
Theatre.
Supervisory Skills
Founded the Tin Roof Theatre Company in Fargo North Dakota with the mission
of bringing dramatic classics to the community and developing curriculum
for high school students for classroom study. Acted as Artistic Director
for this organization choosing plays carefully for both content and
profitability. Performed the role of Director for the Company's first show
and made an attempt to share my vision with the working actors. Also
served as Publicity and Marketing Director for this Company. Directed
various plays for FMCT, which were very well received within the community,
worked with every type of community member from experienced actor (FMCT's
Artistic Director) to very young children.
