P roject Details:

Title: Automated Coffee Vending Machine using PLC.

This project is an attempt to build a prototype of a coffee vending plant. The concept

demonstrated here by building the prototype process can be extended to control other

processes like chemical batch mixing in industries, nuclear power plants where

manufacturing of bulk quantities takes place by mixing two different substances to give

a useful product. It is applied in processes where it is not possible to manually keep a

count of all the inputs and outputs.

When the start push button is pressed, the process is powered ON, on receiving the

control signal from PLC. A mixture of sugar + milk and coffee decoction are dispensed

i nto a mixing vessel for a predefined duration of time by operating their respective

solenoid valve. The mixing vessel has an immersion heater which heats the mixture for

t he predefined duration for preparing hot coffee. Once the coffee is ready it is dispensed

i nto a cup whose presence is detected by proximity sensor.
