ENGINEERING RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

Trim Die Chipping Study Part II May 2012-December 2012

USCAR-Auto/Steel Partnership

This project from Stamping Tooling Optimization Team is to study AISI D2

steel and shaped as 1-inch cube blocks; inserts to the designated die set

to simulate the in-line stamping process in the automotive industry:

. Analyze FEM results for compression testing simulation, and compared with

industry die chipping process;

. Operate the fatigue test on Intron hydraulic machine and measure die

damage using stereoscope;

. Investigate die fracture surfaces under optical microscopy and scanning

election microscope (SEM).

The paper has been presented at ASME 2012 International Mechanical

Engineering Congress & Exposition in November 2012 at Houston, TX.

Trim Die Chipping Study Part I September 2011-April 2012

USCAR-Auto/Steel Partnership

This is the study on the development of a measurement technique on trim die

chipping damage. 18 dies made of three materials (Caldie, Vanadis, and D2)

along with microstructure analysis for grain information.

. Improve trim die chipping damage surface image process, and develop an

automatic calculation program using Matlab GUI for chipping damage

measurement;

. Use optical microscope examination for grain information (such as grain

size and orientations) and SEM for die fracture mechanism and

development.

This project has been presented at North American Deep Drawing Research

Group (NADDRG) SYMPOSIUM on December 6, 2011 at Rochester, MI.

ACADEMIC TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

Instructional Assistant Fall 2011 and Winter

2012 Wayne State University

. Instruct undergraduate students for laboratory operations on tension

test, bending test, rolling test and microstructure/microhardness test in

Course <Manufacturing Processes I>;

. Teach the experimental data processing and technical reports development.

EDUCATION:

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Jan 2011~April 2013, Wayne

State University, Overall GPA: 3.43

Bachelor of Science in Automotive Engineering, Sep 2006~July 2010,

Shenyang Institute of Technology, Major GPA: 3.51
