Lear Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. Reduction of Inventory Variance 10

Feb 2009 - 30 Mar 2009

Objective: To identify the major causes of Inventory variance of Lear

Automotive India Pvt. Ltd.'s Gonde plant by 50% which comes to the

value of Rs.3.07 lakhs

Execution: The project employed the six sigma methodology namely the DMAIC

cycle. In the define phase the sigma levels were calculated and

Process Map and SIPOC was done. The measure phase involved

performing the Measurement System Analysis (MSA) for the data

collected. The analyze phase involved identifying probable causes,

discovering the root cause and studying them in detail. Finally the

improve phase involved giving appropriate recommendations based on

the study done.

Achievement:

. All the recommendations implemented

. Received Six Sigma Green Belt certificate for this project from

KPMG Consultants, Chennai

Objective: Primary objective was to prepare MRP sheet and sales forecast.

Primary objective was supported by secondary objective which was to

collect data and then apply inventory management tools (e.g. ABC

classification of inventory, seasonality based sales forecasting and

material requirement planning) to manage and then control inventory.

Execution: The research methodology used in the project was secondary

wherein historical data was collected from different

departments in the company like sales, accounts and production.

These data were then analyzed with the help of inventory management

tools. Findings and recommendations were then submitted for

implementation purpose.

Achievement: Findings from project showed that company could have saved Rs

1.2 crore, had they implemented suggested inventory management

principles in the previous year. Company started using MRP tool and

sales forecast for next year with immediate effect.
