PLANT MANAGEMENT:

• Managed the Whitewood Mine coal processing facility, which had a throughput of 1500 tons/hour,

supplying 3.5 million tons/year of coal to the Trans Alta Utilities Wabamun Power Plant (its sole

client).

- Supervised the operation, maintenance and repair of all mining and coal handling equipment.

- Supervised, trained, coached and evaluated all plant personnel (25 employees).

- Prepared short- and long-range plans, capital and operating budgets, preventative maintenance

schedules and equipment maintenance orders.

- Planned scheduled shutdowns.

TRAINING SUPERVISOR:

• Directed training on equipment & completing ground checks with trainees

• Wrote & reviewed SP&Ps / Standard Operating Procedures

• Directed the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair & replacement of all mining & coal

processing equipment used in crushing, screening, stacking, loading, transporting & reclaiming coal

at Whitewood Mine.

• Supervised mechanics, welders and electricians.

• Supervised repairs 1350 Ransom Rapier, Marion 8750, 8200, 8050, 7800 and Bucyrus 1360

• Supervised running repairs & major overhauls on support equipment

• Planned maintenance programs for support equipment.

• Planned maintenance programs for 3 coal handling facilities at High vale mine (throughput 15 million

tons of coal per year) and 2 power plants, as well as draglines and shovels.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT (MAJOR PLANT UPGRADE):

• Redesigned and rebuilt the entire coal handling facility, resulting in a 66.7% increase in Tons per Hr.

through put, a cost savings of $250,000/ year in maintenance costs and 50% less downtime . I

planned every aspect of this $1,000,000 project, so that it was completed in 10 day time frame.

Payback period for the project was 4 years.

- Rebuilt/upgraded ROM crushers, secondary crushers & all transfer points, extending average unit

life from 1 to 4 years.

- Developed conceptual and detailed designs for equipment and process changes.

- Sourced vendors and machine shops, and requisitioned parts, materials and labor.

- Supervised the fabrication, installation and commissioning of new equipment.

- Coordinated and supervised 6 crews, working 24/7 on this project.

- Successfully and seamlessly met Trans Alta’s coal requirements throughout project.

- Developed conceptual and detailed designs for equipment and process changes, within the active

power plants

- Wrote standard operating procedures for all new equipment.

- Repair and upgrade Rockwell ball mills

- Redesigned & installed the power plants conveyor drive system with in the active power plants

- Project managed the rebuilding & redesigning of the flight conveyor system the power plant.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT:

• Supervised 15 equipment operators in all aspects of field production, including the operation and

maintenance of bulldozers, scrapers, dragline, shovels, loaders and trucks used in the excavation

and hauling of coal to the coal processing facility.

• Supervised draglines, 1350 Ransom Rapier, Marion 8750, 8200, 8050, 7800 and Bucyrus 1360

• Led my crew in consistently achieving the highest production in the field of 4 crews.

• Trained employees on all shifts to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Coordinated the construction and maintenance of roads for 200-ton loads.

• Directed maintenance of a de-watering system, which pumped 500 million gallons/year.

• Operated crawlers, tractors, track hoes and graders in an open-pit coal mine and on various oilfield

lease and road construction projects in remote areas of Northern Alberta.

SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP:

• Reduced safety incidents by 25% and increased safety margin by 5% at Whitewood Mine.

• As a group, successfully decreased safety incidents involved in field production by 96% over 7 years.

• Implemented safety awareness programs, led monthly safety meetings and conducted safety tours

with unions. Worked with Human Resources to develop safety procedures.

• Managed land reclamation projects, including construction of ponds & wildlife sanctuaries.

• Monitored basins and water flow to ensure environmental compliance.
