$16M. Communications and information ervice provider for over 27,000
University of Utah students and employees. Reorganized directorate, created
NetCom Project Office to manage a large project portfolio of over 60
active, concurrent projects achieving the following results:
. Data Center move/consolidation. Responsible for moving and
consolidating University Health Sciences, NetCom, and High Performance
Computing data centers into a single new University Data Center.
Improved physical security and seismic and power reliability; paved
the way for future economies and efficiencies in resources among the
three lines of business. A complex, multi-disciplinary project that
was done at the same time NetCom moved into 585 Komas, a separate but
interrelated project.
. Telephone Billing System conversion project migrated NetCom from an
internally developed billing system to an Oracle-based financial
management system, PAETEC Systems' Pinnacle Communication Management
Suite. Requiring retraining of the Customer Service department and
cutover between billing cycles, the conversion resulted in improved
Data Mining into billing records for our customers, decreased customer
service workload, and provided NetCom Account Managers with additional
selling tools to use with their customer base. Accompanied Account
Managers on sales calls to introduce myself to large accounts and
provide feedback and resources to Account Team. Skills: vendor
management, preparation of RFI and RFP.
. Improve productivity by 25% in Campus Help Desk, Customer Service, and
Utah Poison Control Centers by implementing Avaya VoIP and ACD
systems. The first implementation of IP Telephony at the University of
Utah. Used Remedy Service Desk Suite. This complex project affected
critical real-time operations and required cutover with no down time.
Skills: vendor management, preparation of RFI and RFP. I worked with
senior management and business process owners in University Health
Services, an autonomous entity in the State of Utah.
. Decrease costs by 50% and increase annual net revenue by $400,000
multiplexing phone and internet DSL service for University Student
Housing. Work with the Campus Planning Department, business process
owners for all capital construction projects, and University Business
Office. Replace third-party suppliers and bring services in-house
using existing capacity on Avaya PBX; turn internet service to a
revenue center for the Student Housing office.
. Increase availability in student labs by 17% by implementing LDAP-
based authentication in an open system environment. Elimination of
unauthorized use led to increased availability. An agreement between
NetCom and Administrative Services allows NetCom to securely manage
the LDAP server that replicating client information maintained in the
PeopleSoft ERP system. An interdisciplinary project.
. Increased revenue by $100k annually through business development with
state agencies and private sector. Clients included public and private
sector organizations.
. High Speed Research Networks. Enabled the University to join
Internet2, the nationwide high-speed network for research
universities. Negotiated the agreement enabling the University to
obtain a Gigabit Ethernet connection to National Lambda Rail, the
successor to Internet2. Increased external bandwidth by 300% at no
additional cost. Active in the networking committees of these national
organizations and participated in The Quilt's (www.thequilt.net)
Commodity Internet Services project. Skills: vendor management,
preparation of RFI and RFP.
. Cell Phone RFP, VoIP Procurement. RFI and RFP development for
University stakeholders. Oversight of the University-wide data

. NetCom Reorganization. Working with business process managers in IT,
Human Resources, and Financial Services and direct reports, flattened
the organizational structure and gave line of business managers

. Telecom Operations Project Leader, INL 3G Wireless Test Bed. Identify
the business opportunity, successful proposal writer, multimillion-
dollar test facility used by wireless carriers to baseline new
wireless technologies.
. Project manager responsible for implementing Firewall-1, the first
firewall in US Department of Energy Lab System. First centrally
managed network security implementation at the Lab. Work across
organizations in the Lab to ensure continuity of operations.
. Project manager, fiber optic cable reutilization project upgrading
Idaho Chemical Processing Plant network to Gigabit Ethernet. Avoided
$8M in costs and improved availability to 99.9999%.
. INL project manager, Southern Idaho Medical Information Network
(SIMIN). Primary customer contact, strategic planning, and proposal
support enabling SIMIN to win a $1.7M US Department of Commerce NTIA
grant to build a regional medical network serving 7 hospitals in Idaho
and Nevada.
. Planned and chaired DOE-sponsored Intermountain Gigapop Colloquium, a
two-day symposium with 18 subject matter experts from national and
international networks to create awareness and foster adoption of DWDM
wide area technology implemented at the Lab.

Planning (ERP) Project, an Oracle-based system providing Financial and
Data Mining Services.
. Performed Data Mining (Discriminant Function Analysis) to assess the
