Lappeenranta University of Technology
Researcher. Sept 2004 to Nov 2007
Worked as researcher in the department of Electrical Engineering, laboratory of Electrical Drives
Technology. Selected as a student of The Graduate School of Electrical Engineering.
Design of permanent magnet machines for wind turbine and traditional industry applications. Design of
damper windings for direct on-line electrical machines. Modeling of electrical machines with Finite
Element Analysis in 2D FEA and 3D FEA.
Assembled and tested a ~100 kW permanent magnet synchronous generator with damper windings. Also
tested ~600 kW and ~10 kW versions. Parallel active reactive power compensation was also studied and
tested with direct-on-line PM-generators.
I did also my Doctorate degree dissertation during that time (title "Direct-on-line axial flux permanent
magnet synchronous generator static and dynamic performance"). Simulation model of permanent
magnet generators with damper windings and synchronous reluctance machines in Simulink
environment was part of the research tools developed.
Rotatek Finland Oy (part time)
Part time engineer. May 2002 to Aug 2004
Converting of extensive electromagnetic calculation and simulation software for permanent magnet
machines from LabView to Matlab. Balancing software for outer rotor machine rotors. Software was
made with LabView. Task included actual running and balancing of the machines and software testing.
Electromagnetic designs of various electrical machines and simulation with finite element analysis.
Lappeenranta University of Technology
Research assistant. May 2002 to August 2004
Research assistant in the laboratory of Electric Drives Technology. Laboratory works among electrical
machines, filters, inductors, inverters and power converters. I did also my Master’s degree work during
that time (title "Reluctance network of permanent magnet synchronous machines for modelling static air
gap flux density, Lappeenranta University of Technology, 2004
As a part of a co-operation with a industrial partners I was a part of a team that made a simulation model
of a electromechanical system including driveshafts, joints, electrical machine, variable frequency drive
and mechanical/electrical loads. Electrical machine was a model block that was running internal finite
element analysis of the machine model. Variable frequency drive and the mechanical parts were created
with Simulink. My part was to integrate the finite element analysis model of the electrical machine into
the rest of the simulation model.
