Interim Director of Intermediate Care Unit

In a 435 bed, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic

metropolitan tertiary complex care medical center care, responsible

for all levels of strategic, financial, practice and personnel

management of 152 bed, acute care departments. Reporting directly

to the CNO, I have a combined total of 9 direct reports and 278

additional FTE's, while meeting and exceeding productivity

requirements, program and service line development, high quality

and safety measures with an expense budget of $22,636,118. My

experience demonstrates a commitment to high quality and safe

patient care and staff development.

Leadership

Earned the prestigious Joint Commission, Disease Specific

Certifications for Total Hip, Total Knee procedures, for two award

cycles.

Led the successful re-certification of the Stroke programs meeting

the primary stroke requirements of the Joint Commission and

Comprehensive Stroke requirements of the DNV.

Developed a Spine Program, exceeding the requirements of the Joint

Commission Disease Specific Certification survey in February 2013.

Developed and designed a preoperative optimization clinic for

elective surgical candidates. Screening patients for unidentified

at-risk opportunities to include: physical assessment physical

therapy and case management assessment, medication reconciliation,

and identifying physical strengthening needs. Outcomes include

decreasing operating room delays, cancellations, improving patient

surgical outcomes, decreasing length of stay, decreasing

readmissions and infections, decreasing readmissions, all resulting

in improved surgeon and patient satisfaction.

Received Center for Excellence designation from Aetna, United

Healthcare and Blue Cross & Blue Shield for Total Hip and Knee and

Spine programs.

Decreased fall rate by 10% and co-led the Network Fall Prevention

Program, influencing awareness for leadership interventions at the

unit level.

Reduced code blue calls by 47% and increased use of Critical

Response calls by 171% by implementing a critical thinking

initiative and adapting an acute care vital sign form. Currently

pending a manuscript describing how incorporation of this tool,

nurses' assessment and critical thinking skills, and nurse

empowerment to make decisions and intervene quickly have made a

dramatic differences in recognition of subtle changes in the

quality of patient outcomes.

innovative instrument to assist in early recognition of

deterioration in medical surgical patients to include updating

Seton Network acute care flow sheet.
