Pak Arab Refinery Ltd (PARCO) is a Joint Venture between Government of Pakistan and the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi through International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), incorporated as a public limited company
in 1974.
PARCO is an integrated energy company, and is a key player in the country’s strategic oil supply and logistics.
PARCO's major business activities are:

Product transportation through multiple pipelines approx. 2000 km

The organization encompasses Pakistan’s largest refinery and 2000 Kms of cross country pipeline network,
including 8 pumping stations and 25 block valve stations.
The company obtained three simultaneous international certifications: ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management
System), ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health
and Safety Management System).
ASSIGNMENTS CARRIED OUT WITH PARCO
Since joining PARCO in 2009, I have been assigned in Pipeline operation and maintenance section. During this
time, I have the opportunity to take part in all maintenance activities, Risk Analysis and pipeline projects.
Job Title: Pipeline Engineer (E-III)
Job Responsibilities:
Preparation of Tender Documents (Technical & Commercial), Technical evaluation of bids, presentation
note for IEC’s approval, monthly activity report, Bill of quantities for materials to be indented (Pipeline
Spares and Materials).
Row grading, stringing, Cold bending, Welding, N.D.T, application of heat shrink sleeves (co ating) tie-
in’s, holiday inspection, lowering in, back filling, thrust bore cased/uncased canals, roads and railway
crossings, hydrostatic test and commissioning.
Carryout scheduled survey of pipeline to check the extent of external corrosion of Pipeline.
Loading, launching, retrieving and tracking of cleaning, geometrical and intelligent pigs for diameter
26” white oil pipelines, 16” diameter KMK Pipeline, 20” diameter Transfer Line and 26” diameter KPLP
Line.
Assist in pigging contractor to carryout Intelligent Pigging campaign in the region.
Involved in procedure qualification test and welder qualification test was conducted as per WPS
supplied by the owner.
To plan execution schedule, to coordinate with contractor for the achievement of scheduled milesto nes,
verification of daily, weekly and monthly progress reports.
To conduct weekly meetings with contractor and monthly management progress review meeting at
site/ head office.
Attending real time emergencies to maintain the integrity of PARCO Pipeline n etwork in the designated
region.
Receive requisition for repair, maintenance from immediate supervisor, arranges to obtain related
material and deploy team to carry out necessary repair and maintenance work on site by keeping in
view of all safety requirements.
Receive schedule of Pipeline replacement due to internal corrosion in the assigned region and prioritize
the repair maintenance work.
Plan for periodic assessment of designated Pipeline region maintenance work by carrying out required
surveys of Pipeline. Obtain approval from superior and arrange to perform required surveys
accordingly.
Monitor graphs of surveys, interpret and arrange for other survey till final identification of deteriorated
part of the line, and prepare estimates for excavation cost, pipeline, material, time etc. Prepare survey
report, recommend desired action and forward to superior for approval.
Coordinate with the Stations & Terminals before carrying out repair and maintenance of Pipeline to
stop pumping or decrease flow rate for Sleeve welding over Pilferage, metal loss and dent points.
Coordinate with HSE representative of the designated area for obtaining required assistance during
execution of hot work at site.
Create/close maintenance request (Notification/Work order) on SAP and Oracle for Enterprise
Resource Control (ERP).
Direct subordinates or contractor to carry out approved repair and maintenance work, check report of
welding to ensure flawless welding and details of tests carried out with the result to ensure strength of
pipeline.
Visit the maintenance site, review pace and progress work against plans and ensure that maintenance is
taking place according to the schedule and prescribed procedures and policies.
Prepare periodic progress reports showing that status of work in progress in terms of percentage of
work completed and forward to superior.
Keep abreast of emerging new technologies in the field of pipeline maintenance e.g. diagnostic
techniques, coating and wrapping material, equipment/ machinery, and carry out analysis of relevant
factors likely to affect Pipeline maintenance.
Arrange schedule preventive maintenance of laid down pipeline, Block valve assemblies, Microwave
towers in the concerned region and ensure that manuals describing preventive maintenance
programmmes are followed.
Prepare Maintenance History Record of all Pipeline equipments based on Preventive and Corrective
Maintenance.
Fully familiar and conversant with Integrated Management System IMS/HSEQ.
PARCO is ISO (ISO 9001 “QMS”, 14001 “EMS” and OHS 18001) certified company and I am the member
of Integrated Management System Zonal Team.
To take part in quarterly HSE zonal team meetings.
To take part in preparing Investigation report to determine root/contributory causes of
accidents/injuries/near miss.

INTELLIGENT PIGGING & GYROSCOPIC SURVEY
Preparation of Contract documents & Technical Specifications for Intelligent pigging of 16 inch dia.

Carried out Pigging campaign as Field Coordinator at KMK pipeline from Karachi to Shikarpur in 2011
with M/s Weatherford & NGKS personnel’s from Russia.
Expert to interpret the ultrasonic, MFL and Combo (MFL/TFI) pig data of intelligent tool.
PROJECTS
For effective accomplishment of Integrated Management System (IMS) at PS-2, BUBAK, I was
involved in a project whose main objective is to implement SAP and MAXIMO/ORACLE in daily routine
Maintenance Activities. In doing so, I gave Practical Trainings and Presentations to Operation Staff at
PS-2, BUBAK.
Installation of 8” dia Non-Slam NRV at bypass of PARCO block valve assemblies BV-08 & BV-10.
Technical and Commercial Evaluation of bids and prepared presentation Note for IEC (Internal
Evaluation Committee) approval for supply of Carbon-Steel pipe of 16” Ø API 5LX-46 (44th Edition) wall
thickness 0.5”, 26” Ø API 5LX-70 (43rd Edition) wall thickness and 20" Ø API 5LX-42 (44th Edition) wall
thickness 0.281”.
Prepared Technical and Commercial evaluation of bids and prepared presentation Note for IEC
approval for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) of PARCO overhead crossings (Unarwah, Shahi,
Begari and Patfeeder Canal).
Prepared Technical evaluation of bids for supply of 16” dia, Wall Thickness 0.5”, 90ᵒ & 45ᵒ 3D bends
conforming to ASTM A-234, WPHY-60 and ANSI B 16.9.
Prepared Technical evaluation of bids for supply of 18000 m, 16” dia, Wall Thickness 0.375”, API 5LX -
56 Factory 3LPE Coated pipe, longitudinal or helical seam submerged for Karachi by-pass project.
