Research Experience:

My doctoral research has focused on transcriptional regulation of human microsomal epoxide hydrolase

(mEH).

• Demonstrated that transcription factors Sp1 and Sp3 are key regulators of the basal transcription

of mEH.

• Identified and characterized two distal enhancer elements in the mEH genomic region, which led

to the discovery that the master oxidative stress regulator, Nrf2 functions as a mediator of mEH

upregulation in lung cancer cells.

• Investigated the link between epigenetic modification on mEH promoter regions and tissue-

specific expression of human mEH.

Techniques and Skills:

Molecular biology: gene and recombinant DNA cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, quantitative

real-time PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation assay (ChIP), electrophoretic mobility shift

assays (EMSA), luciferase reporter assays, western blotting, ELISA.

Cell biology: primary hepatocyte culture and mammalian cell culture, DNA and RNA

transfection, cell lysis techniques, RNAi (with siRNA, shRNA and lentivirus), multi-well plate-

based cytotoxicity and proliferation assays, basic fluorescence microscopy techniques.

Expertise in animal work: basic training on mice.

Computer software and analysis: R/Bioconductor for High-Throughput Sequence Analysis,

Identification of functional elements with ENCODE and UCSC genome browser, Microsoft

Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Research Interests:

My research interests are broadly in understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms of human

diseases and developing new therapeutic agents by identifying potential drug targets. Specifically, I am

interested in the signal transduction pathways important for cancer and other diseases. I am also

interested in the study of how epigenetic modifications contribute to gene regulation, cancer

development and cell differentiation.
