• CLS Clinical Rotation

• Henry Ford Hospital, MI (Main Campus)

I was trained in Chemistry, Hematology, Urine analysis, Blood Bank and Microbiology. Under general supervision, I performed routine and complex analytic procedures, on blood and/or other body fluids or specimens, involving manual techniques or the use of laboratory instruments and information systems, includingSiemens Dimension Vista, Siemens ADVIA Centaur CP immunoassay System, Beckman Coulter Unicel Dxc800 Synchron clinical System for chemsitry, iQ 200 system and AX-4280 for urine analysis, STA-R Evolution® Expert Hemostasis System for coagulation, and Coulter LH 750 for routine hematology.

09/2006- 08/2009

• Research Assistant (Cancer’s Chemoprovention and Radiation Research)

• Radiation Oncology Department, Wayne States University, MI

• Supervisor: Dr. Gilda Hillman

This study is to test combined modalities with radiation and natural products or radiation and gene/immunotherapy in animal tumor models and different cancer cell lines.

I performed surgical procedures in mice to implant tumors in different organs and tested experimental anti-cancer therapies using mouse models, irradiation of tumors, intratumoral gene therapy or systematic administration of natural products.

Other techniques includes: purification and quantification of plasmids, transfection of tumor cells with plasmids or adenoviral vectors; performance of Western blots to test for signal transduction molecules and use of kits for detection of phosphorylated signal molecules, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and imaging, confocal microscope imaging, data preparation for publish, routine lab maintainance.

10/2003-09/2005

• Clinical Cytogenetic

• Joint Sino-US Clinical & Molecular Laboratory, School of Public Health, Fudan University, China

• Sponsor: University of Colorado, Denver

• Supervisors: Dr. Richard D. Irons and Dr. Liming Bao

The purpose of this study is to investigate the dose-response relationship between benzene exposure and blood diseases in Shanghai workers and to characterize genetic polymorphisms that are associated with increased risk of developing benzene hematotoxicity.

My role in this study was the slides preparation and analysis of banded chromosomal. It was performed on un-stimulated BM cells following 24–72 h of culture. Chromosomes were prepared and G-banding after trypsin was performed according to standard techniques. Analysis was executed by karyotype and Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH).

• Clinical Pathology Diagnosis Training Fellowship

• Department of Pathology, Shanghai Cancer Hospital, Fudan University, China

I was trained in grossing and processing abnormal tissues in cancer patients to make clinical diagnosis by microscopic observations. The techniques included: dissection of fixed surgical specimen; slide preparation from paraffin block and frozen tissues; H&E and immunohistochemistry staining, pathological diagnosis under microscope.
