o Major Field-- Microeconomic Theory
o Minor Fields-- Econometrics, Public Economics
o Other coursework-- Empirical research methods, auction theory, natural resource
economics, international trade theory
o Primary research project involved using Business & Industry census data, census
transportation data and National Input-Output Matrixes to analyze the forces driving
the co-location patterns between different manufacturing industries at the zip code
level in Southern California. The results from the available data show that the
strongest factor is the similarity in the types of labor that firms from different
industries hire. This choice of location pattern by industries benefits the firms by
allowing for easier job match and benefits workers by allowing for an easier job
movement in case of job loss.
