Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Routinely take samples of suspect asbestos containing
material for analysis. Perform asbestos hazard evaluation of areas prior to construction
activities. Provide Asbestos Awareness training to staff as needed.
Hazard Assessment Perform hazard evaluations of areas prior to the Facilities group
conducting construction/renovation or demolition activities. Hazards include asbestos, lead,
industrial hygiene monitoring, chemical fume hood and related duct work activities, Radiation
Safety Services notification, Hazardous Waste Operations notification, personal protective
equipment, hazard communication.
Ergonomic Evaluation Perform ergonomic evaluations on staff re: their office computer,
desk, chair set-up is appropriate. Evaluations were performed on staff in the Travel,
Accounting, Legal and Facilities groups.
Accident/Incident Analysis Conduct and provide written reports of Accidents/Incidents
involving Facilities staff. Reports included:
• A perforated finger working on the saddle stitch machine
• A severed index finger tip due to reaching into a press to retrieve a fallen rag.
• A chlorine gas exposure
Industrial Hygiene Monitoring
• Indoor Air Quality monitoring for carbon dioxide, temperature and humidity
• Mercury monitoring in drain traps and wall footprints of demolished laboratories
• Lead exposure monitoring on janitorial staff sweeping lead-containing paint chips
